MENS BROOMBALL
WINTHROP 5-ROYALSO
Jim McDonald did one better than a hat
track in this game against the Royals. Dave
Lionhardt, Ross IVfltchell and Bill Shortreed
assisted. Sneaking in a lone goal was Fred
McClure. The Royals seemed to be all over
the ice but could not place the ball into the
net.
PARR LINE 1- RIVER RATS 0
A mild and meek shot by Paul Gibbings
proved you don't have to have a power shot
to put the ball into the net. His helpers were
Craig Piet and Ed Se/verde. The Rats' en-
durance was there but no goal scoring
appeared.
KNIGHTS 2 - EASY RIDERS 3
The first goal came from Joe Dorssers but
defensive Jeff Allan proved he could score
too, with help from Rob McGregor. Knights'
Joe Vink found an open corner and scored
unassisted. Not far behind was Steve
Hulshof who wound up and deposited the
ball into the net to tie the game up. With two
minutes played in sudden death overtime
John Aicknell chopped the ball at the red
line and made it fly through the air and into
the net.
DUMPERS 4 - GRADS 2
With five seconds played in the game
Mike Vandenhevel reached out and tipped
the ball in the open net. A little help came
from Ray Filson. An elaborate shot by Tony
Vandenhevel was unassisted. Dumpers
Dale Kennedy got a goal with John
Deveraux by his side. Murray Houston
evaded all players and scored on a pass
from Dennis Murray. Deicing the goalie, Bill
Dale got credit for a goal. He was assisted
by Frank Verberne and Frank Fisheyes
Brett Finlayson blasted a shot two feet from
the net to score the Dumpers' fourth goal.
RAIDERS 3 -RED RUSTLERS 2
A fiery goal by Mike Becker came about
from a pass from Mark Ryan. Steve Faulds
also scored, assisted by Marlin VanRaay
and Lloyd R. Diehl Hero Bob Jansen
started the Raiders on the scoreboard,
thanking Tony Arts for the pass. Two goals
in one night, I hope Jeff manages to get his

COMMERCIAL 5-JR.FARMER O
Heather Mcllwraith's expectation was to
score a goal. Well, she achieved her goal
and added an assist. Tammy Nash directed
the ball into the open corner of the net twice
with help from Darlene Rolph. Audrey
Schenk scored another goal and the fifth
goal was credited to a mysterious number
10.

acknowledged a follow through shot directly
on net after two minutes of overtime in this
game between Winthrop and the Queens.

Cardinals one point behind Falcons
BY GEORGE LOVE
The Cardinals have put on a late surge
and have moved to withing one poigt of the
league leading Falcons in the St. James
Bowling League after action on Monday,
February 27. There is one more week of
league play and as fate would have it, the
Cardinals play against the Falcons in a sud-
den death match with the winners capturing
the League Championship.
The Cardinals showed no mercy to the
Hawks, winning 7-0. Top bowlers were
Cathy Broome 279, 218, 256-753; Sandy
Broadfoot 297, 273-749; Todd Caldwell 261,
224-683; Albert Boven 262-598. Dan Ben-
newies led the Hawks with 267, 278-732;
Kevan Broome 247-615; Pat Ryan 197-526;
Joanne Albin 226-513.
Meanwhile, the Orioles stopped the
Falcons 5-2, to put their championship
aspirations on hold for one more week.
Harry Den Haan was the leader for the
Seaforth Novice win Clinton playoff series
The Novice hockey team began their se-
cond round of playoffs on Tuesday,
February 28 in Seaforth. The Clinton team
beat out Mitchell so they were the new
opposition.
Clinton came out ready to work and at the
end of the first period the score was Clinton
2 Seaforth 0. During the second and third
periods Seaforth came to life as Mark Van
Dooren put away four goals in a row. Assists
went to Scott Van Dooren (2), Rob Craig and
Scott Henderson. With four minutes left in
the game, Clinton scored again. The final
score was Seaforth 4 Clinton 3. The goalie
for this game was Josh Dietz.
The second game of the best of five series
was in Clinton on Thursday night, March 2
with Charles Robertson in goal. Clinton
came out flying and scored two unanswered
goals in the first minute and 10 seconds.
Seaforth had to come from behind again!
Scott Van Dooren took a pass from Jered
Munro and shot it high into the net. Then Pat
Coyne put in a backhand shot from Jeremey
McNichol to tie the game. Rob Craig picked
up a rebound and popped it in the net to give
Seaforth a 3-2 lead at the end of the first
period.
The scoring was even in the second
period. Mark Van Dooren put a hard shot
over the goalie's right shoulder and Clinton
also scored one.
The third period belonged to Seaforth with
Mark Van Dooren scoring two identical
goals. Each time he held onto the puck till
the goalie made a move and then shot in the
backhand. Scott Henderson assisted on one.
The final score was Seaforth 6 Clinton 3.
Because Clinton won the flap, the third
game was also in Clinton on Saturday,
March 4 with Charles Robertson in goal
again. Once again Clinton took the lead ear-
ly in the first period but this time Seaforth
was determined to play their best.
Josh Dietz assisted by Scott Van Dooren,
tied the game at 1-1. Then Brandon Nash
made a beautiful pass to Michael Mullin in
front of the net and he shot it in. Scott Van

Belles hot on a winning streak
On Sunday, March 5 the Seaforth Belles
played Exeter on home ice. All the girls
were in pretty good shape and fans were
numerous.
The game was fast and action packed and.
both teams were even tbfioughout the first
period. Scoring Seaforth's first goal of the
night was number 24 Jen Watt assisted by
winger Lori Dewy's. Exeter tried very bard
to score but with excellent goaltending by
Shelly O'Brien and hard working
defencemen, they were unsuccessful. The
first period ended with Sheri Kling receiving
a pass from Amy Vanden Akker and making
a great move around Exeter's defencemen
and into the net.

score to 3-0. The rest of the period was even

Exeter took advantage of the shortage of
Seaforth players and scored their first goal
at the 7:17 mark. The rest of the period was
centered on Jane Roweliffe who took over
and scored assisted by strong defencemen
Heather McKercher and centermen Tammy
Nash. Jane was in the spotlight again as she
scored the last goal of the game assisted by
Sheri Kling and Shelly Nigh. Final score 5-1.
All the girls played well and the
defencemen did well in keeping the ring out
of Seaforth's end. "Keep it up girls".
