The Seaforth Legion held its monthly
meeting last Thursday evening with 22
members present. Donations of $2,200.
recommended by the Executive were pass-
ed. Another motion of $500 was made to
Parkwood Hospital to be used from the Pop-
py Fund. This money is to be used for com-
forts for the Veterans residing there.
The Provincial Service Officer will be at
the Legion on March 2] at 12:30 p.m. An}'
Veteran not knowing for sure if he is receiv-
ing all the benefits he is entitled tu, please

The peewee teams which were sponsored
by the Legion to play in the Mitchell tourna-
ment, played well. The no, 1 team had two
wins but were put out in triple over time in
the third game. The no. 2 team played
superior teams but did play close games
The 60th Anniversary committee stated
there will be a Drumhead Service at Vic-
toria Park on July 1 with all the Branches
from the District invited to participate. The
Brussels Pipe Band has been invited to lead
the parade. 1t was also passed that the com-
mittee proceed with ordering 500 pins com-
memorating the 60 years of service from
1929-1989 to Veterans and the town of
Seaforth.
Youth Education Chairman Bruce Wilbee
held the Legion's annual Pubhc Speaking
contest last Sunday afternoon with con-
testants from Seaforth Public School, St.
James Separate School and Huron Centen-
nial and Seaforth District High School. In
the junior division (Grade 4-5-6) the three

This week at Maplewood Manor cupids,
heart and flowers were added to the decor.
On Tuesday morning, Valentine's Day,
bright red hearts decorated the placemats
at breakfast- At noon, a touch of spring was
added to the dining room with potted plants
of crocuses, daffodils and tulips that will
bloom over the next few weeks
Later that day the Catholic Women's
League from St. Columban's Catholic'
Church came to Maplewood. Mary Maloney,
Cecilia Ryan, Mildred Cronin, Helen Nolan,
Sister Rita Coyne and Eilleen Sloan,
organized five tables of euchre and it was

Seaforth Manor residents started off the
week on Monday morning with Fun and
Fitness to help everyone get in shape. In the
afternoon bingo was played with a very good
turnout. Winners were Frank Smale, Gladys
Ruston, Margaret Smale, Edith Salo, Jenny
Hildebrand, Kathryn Waltham, Inez'Spittal,
Keith Herman, Eva Netzke, Irene Omand.

On Tuesday morning residents welcomed
several Grade 6 students' from Seaforth
Public School for their weekly visit.
Residents certainly appreciate the visits
from these young people and those that
can't see as well are enjoying being read to.
In the afternoon the St, ,Columban
Catholic Women's League lead the residents
in a special Valentine sing -along. Residents
are hoping that they will come back again
sometime. A special thanks for the lovely
homemade lunch they provided.
On Wednesday afternoon residents joined
together to sing hymns, due to the cancella-
tion of the weekly church service. Ila Gard-
ner read Psalm 23 to the residents.

Don't forget Brotherhood night this Thurs-
day. February 23 at the Legion. There will
be a social hour from 6 to 7 p.m. with dinner
at 7 p,rn. This year the Knights of Columbus
are the host club.
The Executive meeting has been changed
from March 9 to March 2 (1st Thursday) at 8
p.m. this coming month.
The Monday afternoon Sepior cards will
continue on Monday, February 27 at 1:30
p.m. All Seniors welcome

Pete Tremeer and Man Lupul were the
luckiest card players for 'lone hands. A
delicious luncheon of sandwiches, squares
and decorated heart -shaped cookies was
served by the ladies of the church, Anna
Agar expressed thanks from the residents
for the lovely afternoon
On Wednesday_afternoon Father Caruan-
na came to Maplewood for the ministerial
service. Anne Downey and Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Ryan, members of the congregation.

On Friday morning residents met for Fun
and Fitness in two groups altheywere fin-
ding one, group too large. In the afternoon
several tables of euchre were set up.
This past week marked the beginning of
ticket sales for the Quality Care Fund raffle.
Two baby afghans donated by staff member
Diana Ward, are being raffled with pro-
ceeds going to the Quality Care Fund. The
draw will, take place on March 17 at the St,
Patrick's Party. To date Len Bloomfield has
made the top ticket sales. Items are on
display in the window at Hildebrand
Flowers.
Get well wishes are extended to both
Kathryn Waltham and Cassie Nicholson
who are. presently patients at Seaforth
Hospital.
The scarf left behind at Dave and Eva
Netzke's anniversary has still not been
claimed. To claim it call 527-0030.

Wednesday evening, Anne Downey was
back again as a volunteer to help with Lions
T,V. Bingo. No winners but lots of .close

Seaforth Public -School m Mrs. Hoelscher's
Grade 6-7 class came to help as volunteers.
Jason and Chris helped In various ways; by
reading The Expositor to Anne Henderson;
by helping a resident move her furniture
and belongings to a new room and by play-
ing an exciting game of checkers with Ger-
tie Taylor and Ella Vivian.
Also on Thursday morning Marion Rose
played the piano in the upstairs lounge
. Marion always plays the favorite pieces the
residents like to listen to or sing along with
the piano.
Friday afternoon Ruth Bock called the
bingo numbers for the largest crowd of
bingo players. yet. Everyone must have felt
especially lucky on Friday. The winners
were Walter Somerville, Mina 'Sherrie,
Grace Titford, Ed Johns and /lisle

1988 when capital expenditures accounted
for a good portion of the budget.$103,458
was slated for capital expenses in 1988 as
opposed to $17,390 in 1989.
Also contributing towards the 1989 SDCC:
budget will be the surrounding townships.
Hibbert will contribute $3,286 this year,
Hullett $1,318, Tuckeramith $7,415 and
McKillop $13,733.
