BRIDES' S9
Dealing with stress
When the bride wants her wedding
barefoot in the park, when the groom
wants to dance the first dance to Ozzy
Osbourne, and when both sets of parents
have had their umpteenth argument
about the monogram on the matchbooks,
pre -wedding jitters begin to take their
toll.
On the day you want to be the most
beautiful, the stress can often be over-
whelming as the tension shows on your
face.
Mary W. Jaensch, director of
marketing for the Olay Company, ex-
plains that, "Pre -wedding stress affects
everyone when the time comes. With
over 50 million women around the world
using Olay, our research has shown that
there are certain common stress factors
that can be avoided.
"You can certainly help to relieve
many of the symptoms so that you will
look as beautiful outside as ydu feel
inside."
• I -Can't -Take -It -Anymore Stress:
Some women escape pre -wedding stress
by taking everything in stride, and others
cringe every time the bridesmaids
disagree or when the band cancels, at the
last minute.
For those who get tense, facial muscles
contract as the stress takes hold, and fine
tiny wrinkle lines around the eyes and
mouth can become more noticeable.
This is not a time to decide you don't
have time to moisturize morning, noon
and night. A greaseless moisturizer that
penetrates quickly should be used more
often than usual during the wedding plan-
ning months.
Moisturizers can temporarily diminish
the appearance of fine wrinkle lines and
make others invisible altogether.
Roy Blank, Olay's director of research,
explains, "Moisture is needed under the '
skin as well as on the surface to plump
and replenish, helping skin resist even '
the finest of tiny wrinkle lines."
• I -Can't -Eat -A -Thing Stress: Loss of
appetite is a common side-effect of
prenuptial stress and, since the' skin
reflects the state of your health, now's
the time to make sure to eat well balanc-
ed meals and start taking multi-vitamins.
Roy Blank of Olay explains that certain
vitamins can be beneficial for the. skin
when taken internally.
"Vitamin E works in the epidermis
(the upper layer of the skin), protecting
the cells from the oxidation process.
"Vitamin C works in the dermis (the
deepest layer) to strengthen elastin and
collagen which keep skin smoother, more
wrinkle free and resilient.
• 1 -Can't -Sleep -A -Wink Stress: Few
brides get proper sleep and, once again,
the skin will bear the brunt of the
cosmetic side effects. Baggy, puffy eyes
and a pale complexion will soon take
over.
A hot bath, some relaxing music or a
glass of milk before bed will help you
take your mind off the wedding plans and
drift off for a full eight hours.
If proper sleep is impossible, try
splashing your face with cold water to in-
crease the circulation and put the color
back in your face.
• 48 -Hours -To -Go Stress: Trying to do
too much, too quickly, is never a good
idea, and it's the worst idea right before
the big day. If you have all those months
to plan a wedding, make planning your
beauty debut part of those plans.
Treat yourself to a facial two to four
weeks before the wedding. It will help to
relax you, as well as providing deep -
cleansing.
Moisturize every day without fail so
your skin will be smooth, moist and glow-
ing on your wedding day.
"Skin is a delicate organ and it can
show the effects of being hurried into
condition," Mr. Blank says. "Take it slow,
and you can see a real difference in your
skin when the wedding day rolls around."
