The Seaforth Centenaires may be out of
the Western Junior D playoffs, but the club
playe tone of its best games of the season on
Sunday afternoon against Mitchell, and
came away with a point.
Seaforth was shut out in the first period,
while Mitchell's Dean ,Smith, who wears
number three, scored two unassisted goals,
including a shorthanded goal.
Travis Lyndon launched a Centenaire
scoring drive in the second period, a 30 foot
slapshot that found the top corner. Brad
Carter next scored on a power play, assisted
by Jason McNichol and Chris Reeves. And
Ray Murray put Seaforth in the lead as he
took a pass from Bruce Pearn and deked the
Mitchell netminder. With 3:13 left in the
period the Hawks took advantage of a power
play to tie the game at three.
Early in the third period Lyndon and Mur-
ray teamed up for a fourth goal, then Jeff
Gemmell and Tim Moore set Murray up for
his third point of the night on a power play.
Mitchell scored their fourth at 12:53, but
was stopped on several more good scoring
opportunities by Cent's goalie Jason Cooper.
With 2:07 left to play and Seaforth a goal
ahead Mitchell called for a stick check, and
the referee ruled the curve on the stick was
illegal. Thirty seconds later the Hawks
scored their fifth and tying goal, and the
game ended at 5-5.
In Tavistock on Friday, February 10, the
Centenaires were scalped 16-4 by the
Braves. The Cents • were without their
midget players for the game, and had only
eight skaters and two goaltenders.
Tavistock had a 7-0 lead after the first
period, but in the second Seaforth held them
to three and scored two of their own coming
from Travis Lyndon, unassisted, and Dar-
ren Akey from Neil Corbett and Brad Beut-
tenmiller. In the third period Tavistock up-
ped its total to 16, and Seaforth got two more
goals, Travis Lyndon scored again assisted
by Steve Schroeder and Tim Moore, and
Neil Corbett was set up by Tim Moore and
Brad Beattemniller.
The Cents' record now stands at two wins,
28 losses, and four ties.
The Centenaires will be in Wellesley Fri-
day night, and their last game of the season
will be against Lucan on Sunday, February
19 in Seaforth.
