A good series guys.
Seaforth Pee Wee is play in a tournament
at Mitchell on the weekend. First game is at
8 a.m. against Waterloo. Good Luck Guys.
Belles undefeated in tournament
On Sunday, February 12 the Seaforth
Belles were invited to Hensall to participate
in a small tournament.
The girls first game was against Exeter at
3 p.m. Seaforth's Jennifer Watt started the
coring off and assists went to teammates
ane Rowcliffe and Tammy Nash. The
:me was very close as both teams • were
ager to win. Seaforth's second goal was
cored by Tammy Nash as help came from
Cringer Jennifer Watt at the 2:01 mark.
The girls started off the second period in
he lead but Exeter slipped one in to close
:he gap. Sheri Kling feeling the need,. pop-
aed one in at the 12:41 mark. Assists came
from Tammy Nash and Jennifer Watt. Ex-
eter still putting on the pressure, scored
their final goal of the game. Jennifer Watt
suddenly gained a spurt of energy and
blasted one by Exeter's goalie. Assists went
to winger Sheri Kling and defencemen
Heather McKercher. The final was 4-2 for
Seaforth.
Seaforth's next game was at 5 p.m.
against the strong, hard hitting Chatham
team. This game proved to be the most
challenging for the girls.
Seaforth came on strong as Jennifer Watt
made her way through and pocketed the
first goal, assisted by centerman Tammy
Nash. Seaforth held on to the lead but at the
3:21 mark Chatham scored'to tie it up. With
15 seconds left Chatham scored again to
take the lead, At the face off Tracey Silis
made a long pass to the comer which was
picked up by Tammy Nash who quickly
blasted the ring off the crossbar to score
with eight seconds left.
The second period was a "whopper" agth
both teams coining on strong. Sheri Kling
slipped one by, assisted by Jane Rowclfffe
and Amy Vanden Akker. Tammy Nash took
the free pass and scored unassisted. ' '
Seaforth took a three goal lead as Tammy
Nash scored again assisted by "gretzky"
Jennifer Watt and Lori Dewys. Chatham
woke up and smelled the coffee and quickly
popped in three goals to tie the game at five
goals each;
Suddenly, both teams went "nuts" and
tried their hardest to score. Thanks to goalie
Shelly O'Brien, Chatham did not succeed
and the game ended in a 5-5 tie, Everyone
played well and contributed their best. Shel-
ly O'Brien, as usual played excellent and
never gave up. I-1eIj) came from her strong
defencemen.
The girls now wait to see who will be their
first victims in the playoff round.

Seahawks
skate to tie
There wasn't a lot of open ice at the arena
on Friday night. And there was a battle for
every inch of it as the Seaforth Seahawks
and Wellesley Merchants skated to a 6-6
standoff in a well played and entertaining
tilt between two talented hockey teams.
More is in store this Saturday night as the
same two teams tangle in the opening game
of their best -of -five Western Ontario
Athletic Association intermediate playoff
here in Seaforth at 9 p.m. An extremely
short-staffed Seahawk team dropped a 4-3
decision to Milverton at Hensall on Saturday
night, to conclude the team's regular
schedule. It finished in third place with a
record of 10 wins, seven losses and two ties.
Wellesley finished first and showed why
Friday night. The Merchants are fast and
big, can put the puck in the net and play a
punishing physical and positional game.
Brad Hymers (knee), Jim Campbell
(elbow), Greg Murray (tooth) and Rob Core
(bell rung) all missed some shifts or left the
game because of injuries. Hymers might be
done for the season. The Merchants were
also playing without two top gunners, Dar-
ren and Jeff Snyder. They only lost two
games and tied three this season. they beat
the Seahawks twice at Wellesley 7-4 and 7-2,
and tied both games at Seaforth 3-3 and Fri-
day's 6-6 draw.
Like the last time Wellesley was in town,
the Seahawks couldn't protect a two -goal
lead in the third period. Wellesley jumped to
an early 3-1 lead but Seaforth stormed back
to take a 5-3 edge in the first minute of the
final frame. Kevin Williamson and Pete
Bennett each scored twice for the
Seahawks, with Doug McSorley and Kevin
'Melady adding singles. Six different Mer-
chants scored the Wellesley goals. It was
hard-hitting but clean, as • referee Clarke
Pollock tagged Wellesley with 16 minutes
worth of minor penalties to Seaforth's 12
minutes.
Saturday night at Hensall the Seahawks
only had a Scotsman's dozen of 11 players
for their last game of the schedule, one of
whom was coach Chris Cardno who donned
equipment so the others could get a
breather. Even so the Seahawks almost
pulled it out. They trailed 3-0 after the first
period and 3-1 after the second, but two
quick goals early in the third tied it up
before the Seahawks had one that went in off
a skate, called back and Milverton scored
what pt`oved to be the winning goal midway
through the period. Melady led the locals
with a goal and two assists, Gerry
McLaughlin drove home a goal and an assist
and Dave Murray added a singleton. Milver-
ton took 16 minutes in minors to Seaforth's
14.
THIS, THAT AND WHATNOT: Saturday
night's game was Seaforth's only home ice
loss of the season. They were 8-2-1 at home
and 3-6 on the road. McSorley is lost to the
Seahawks for the playoffs because he lives
in Kitchener which is beyond a 25 -mile
radius and is thus ineligible. The loss is con-
siderable. Doug is a tenacious forechecker
and nifty shooter. Hymers also likes the
rough -and-tumble and will be missed
against a team like Wellesley. Game two in
the playoffs is slated for Wellesley Sunday
afternoon at 2 , p.m. Game three is at
Wellesley a week this Friday and game
four, if necessary, will be back in Seaforth
Saturday, February 25 at 8:15. Wellesley
gets the extra home game if it is necessary.

by Don Wood 551, and Ron Bennett 531. The

Wey's Mustangs taking all seven points
from them.
