RINGETTE WEEK is February 5 to
February 12, 1989.
In many places, the mention of the word
"Ringette" still evokes puzzled looks and
the inevitable question "What is Ringette"?
If you are one of the unknowing many, it's
time you became one of knowledgeable few.
Ringette is a dynamic, team -oriented
game which has been enjoying phenomenal
growth and success over the past few years.
Played on ice, Ringette incorporates con-
cepts of many sports with several elements
of its very own. A playing line is composed
of a center, two forwards, two defence and'a
goalie, each having their own clearly defin-
ed zones of play. The ring must be passed
over the blue lines, necessitating coor-
dinated team effort. Each game consists of
two 15 minute, stop time halves in the Junior
.division and under, or two 20 minutes, stop -

time halves in the Belle and over
categories.
Being a high-powered sport, Ringette
challenges players to perfect their skating,
passing and shooting skills. Numerous
Ringette and skating schools are made
available through the Ontario Ringette
Association for players of all ages and
abilities. Trained instructors, resource
materials, promotional items and fun-
draisers have been developed to ensure a
solid framework upon which strong
Ringette organizations may be built.

ing in age from 5 to 17 yea -sof age and
representing five different age groupinri,
