Murray .a all-stars r The Seaforth Centenaires lost their 22nd game to the Brussels Bulls to Seaforth on Friday night, but the team at least looked like a club that could May competitive • junior ID hockey The first two minutes of the game were the°worstfor the Centenaires. as sloppy play got them behind by two goals. Brad Carter got the Seaforth offence going, when he took a cross -ice pass from Mike Betties, stepped over the blueline, and ripped a slapshot into the top corner. Jeff Gemmell also assisted on the goal. With 6:14 left in the period Ray Murray took over the Cents' scoring. drive, and with the assistance of Andy Ball notched a hat trick before the clock could run out on the first•period. Ball ssisted on all three goals. and- Bruce Pearf1 Gemmell, and Steve Schroeder were also credited with assists The score after the first period was tied at four. but Brussels took the lead with a goai early in the second period. then got twv power, play goals in the last minute of the period to go ahead 7-4. , Brad Carter .brought Seaforth to •wittur. two goals of the Bulls with a goal assisted b Rob Sloan early in the third' perioc, Seaforth's power play resulted in a fourth goal from Murray. assisted by Carter and Schroeder. and Ball got his fourth point of the night when he scored with assistance from Carter and Schroeder -the former also gettmg his fourth point of the night. The Centeneires got excellent goaltending from Trevor Fortune who stopped a lot of shots in a game that saw a lot of offence and little defence, But the Bulls scored twice around the six minute mark, and managed to hang on until time ran out with the clock reading 9-7 in their favor. The Bulls' number seven. Brian Campbell, and number two Marty Rutledge. contributed to the Centenaires loss as each scored three goals and got two assists. The Centenaires' record stands at two wins, 22 losses, and three ties. The club is eight points behind Wellesley -the team the Cents' must beat to get a spot in the playoffs- and there are now only nine games left on their schedule. Three of the nine re- maining games are against first place Lucan, but two are against Wellesley, The next home game for the Centenaires will be on Sunday, January 22 when Lucan will. be in town ALL-STAR GAME The annual Western Junior "D", all-star game between the north and south was played on Saturday. and the result was a 10-10 tie. Representing the Centenaires in the ale - star game was forward Brad Carter, anc defenceman Mike Murray. Brad Carter had his share of scormg or- portunities. He assisted on the tiurd goal for the North Division. and when the score wa: tied -at 8-8, he scored, a goo-ahead,nmth gee: There was only about three minutes left m the game and it looked as though Carter had the game winner. but three more goals were scored between the two clubs and the final score was 10-10 Centenaires GM Glen McClure was at the game and said both of Seaforth's players "handled themselves quite well." Jr© Farmers rewired win MEN'S BROOMBALL GRADS 1- DUMPS 0 The crowd went wild when the Grads scored the game's only goal. Tony Vandenhevel directed a wide angle shot into the net, assisted by Mike Vandenhevel. Bob Henderson scored the third goal by bouncing the ball off both corner posts and into the net Don Hender- son assisted Floyd Upshaw, assisted by Alvin Dow, scored for the Royals RED RUSTLERS 0 - KNIGHTS 2 Mark Louwagie deflected the ball directly into the net twice for the Knights. His assistants were Lawrence Vink, Larry Bertens, Murray Bell and Joe Vink Red Rustlers tried hard but got nowhere WINTHROP 1- PARR LINE 2 Rod Merrier got a rebound to score the first for Parr Line. Don Wise and Roy Fisher assisted. Roy Fisher added another for Parr Line, when he flipped the ball over the goalie's head. He was assisted by Don Wise and Rod Merrier. Dave Leonhardt got the lone Winthrop goal, from the blue line. Bill Shortreed and Jim McDonald assisted. EASY RIDERS 11- REGIER RAIDERS 1 Raymond Hinz scored the first and only goal for Raiders with Dave,Hulley.an l lack Holmes assisting. What a come back by the Easy Riders with Wayne Gingerick scoring,. • assisted by Terri Morey and • Al Wynja. • Mighty Rob McGregor added a couple of goals with John Bicknell by his side. Martin Wynja also had a couple of points and Jeff Alien helped out. Ed Van Miltenburg popped one into the net with help from Jerry Zwep. Rick Harris chipped the ball into the net unassisted for another goal. Last but not least. Steve Haggitt scored a goal from his belly off a pass by Ed Van Miltenberg. LADS BROOMBALL QUEENS 0 - PARR LINE 3 Sandi Fremlin treats herself to two goals in this contest, assisted by Glenda Chaput and Joan H Henderson. Glenda Chaput got Parr lane's third goal. She was assisted by Estella Wilson and Joan H. Henderson. The Queens ladies had numerous opportunities, but couldn't capitalize on any of them JR. Mark Van Dooren started the scoring at the six minute mark of the second period on a breakaway. He had made a beautiful end to end rush a minute earlier but the goalie had made an excellent save: This time he made sure it went in '• SW"aforth's second goal was on a power play Pat Coyne made an excellent pass to Mark who put it in theenet. Parkhill came back three minutes later with one goal but Mat was the only shot they could get past goaltender Josh Dietz. The final score was Seaforth 2 Parkhill 1. On Saturday the Brussels team came to town. Seaforth jumped into the lead after only' 44 seconds of play when Pat Coyne scored an unassisted goal. On the next goal Pat picked up his own rebound. skated ,around the net and passed it 'out front to Jerenhey McNichol who scored. Mark Van Dooren then carried the puck in from centre. ice and scored, Seafeifth "'vas then called. on two infrac- tions and received two 'penalties only 31. seconds apart. The coach sent out Mark Van Dooren, Jered Munro and Bruce Griffin tc, kill off the double penalty for Pe minutes The, boys did a superb job and actually kept the play in the Brussels end for almost the entire time and had a couple of good scaring opportunities. The second period began with a three goal lead for Seaforth. Josh Dietz got a good shot away and Ben Murray was in close and pick- ed up the rebound and scored. The next goal was great team work by the Van Doorer boys. Mark passed the puck from the corner to Scott in front of the net and he popped i: in. Ben Murray passed the puck over to Brandon Nash who carried the puck the full length of the ice to score the only short- handed goal of the game. Brandon then assisted on Mark Van Dooren's goal which bit the goahe'eeskate and rebounded in bet- ween his lege With a score of 7-0 going rots the last period, the game had been a goalie's nightmare. It was to get worse yet for the Brussels goalie. Jeremey McNichol scored, assisted by Pat Coyne, with a backhandshot from out front. Derek Simth poked the puck in during a scramble in front of the net. Michael MuIIin forechecked a Brussels player and scored with a good shot on the net. Jered Munro let a hard shot go from the point and it also went in. Lastly., with only three seconds to play in the game, Mark Van Dooren picked off the top left corner of the net. ' 'The final score was Seaforth 12 Brussels 0. The Novice team will be representing Seaforth in the Atom Tournament this Tues- day at 7 p.m. and also on the weekend. Cheryl McLlwain opened the scoring up for Seaforth on an assist from Katie Craig at the 13:28 mark of the first penod. Kim Rau also scored a goal in the first on an assist from Christa Clark. Stratford also notched two goals in the first to end the period 2-2. In the second, Seaforth took control by scoring two unanswered goals. Kim Rau scored on an assist from Crista Clark and Robyn Carnochan. and Cheryl McElwain scored unassisted. This was a fast paced game and each girl played their position well. Eight penalties were called in the game. Andrea Gin,gerich played. well in net, stopping a lot of Strat- ford's shots. Petites Win two on weekend The, Petites narrowly defeated Godericr on Friday night by a, 3-2 score: The girls fought hard for the win. Marie Cronyn played well in net for the Petites. Scoring for Sealorth were Jennifer Marion with two and Kelly Rau with one. Assists went to Kelly Rau with two and Jill Carnochan with one. Goderich goals were scored by Karen Harrison and Jane Hervey. On Sunday the Petites played against St. Marys and won by a 3-1 score. Scoring for Seaforth were Lisa Gngerich, Lisa McKay and Kathy Devereaux. Getting assists were Kathy Devereaux, Jill Carnochan and Michelle Etue. The lone goal scorer for St. Marys was Tracy Cole PeeWees split games over week';; action The Seaforth Pee Wees won one and lost one this week. On Thursday, Seaforth travelled to Wingba p and won 7-3.
