Both units of Walton's United Church
Women met for a joint meeting in the
church abasement, Wednesday January 4
Twenty-four ladies 'were present.
The first meeting in the New Year was
opened by Marilyn McDonald with a poem
"Resolutions".:Hymn, "Standing at the Por-
tal" was sung , with Marie McGavin the
pianist. •Helen Williamson read scripture
followed by prayer. Marilyn gave a medita-
tion and reading, "A Happy New Year".
Phyllis Mitchell and Margery Huether
favored with a musicat number. Helen dos-
ed the devotions with prayer.
Viola Kirkby read a poem, "Recipe for a
New Year" then introduced the guest
speaker Leona Armstrong who spoke on
Leadership and Development. She brought
forth information in different leadership,
some leaders are born, but some learn from
others, giving us much food for thought in
several poems she read. Marie McGavin ex-
pressed thanks.
Olene Dennis presided for the business,
opening with a poem, "Remember That".
Minutes were read by Marjory Humphries
followed by a thank you. Leona McDonald
gave the treasurer's report. The U.C.W.
have purchased new numberrs for the hymn
board up in the choir loft. It was requested
that K. Food and Zehrs tapes be saved and
put in a box in the church basement. Cut out
front labels from Campbell Soups are to be
left in another box. It was announced in-
stead of the Thank Offering there will be a
Daffodil Tea.
Coming events to keep in mind are the an-
nual congregational meeting January 22
following a pot luck luncheon, church ser-
vice at 11:30 a.m. Walton I unit to serve.
Walton II to clean up. Theme, 'You are the
light of the world' at the Huron -Perth
Presbyterial in Goderich January 23.

Committee reports were given. Karen
Hoegy reported for social functions with
several weddings coming up this year. New
green envelopes are to be purchased by the
U.C.W. A supper committee meeting is
scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday. January 10 at
Mary Humphries home. The executive of
the U.C.W. will meet next month, with unit
meetings on the second Wednesday
Olene closed the meeting with, prayer
Lunch hostesses from both units served
lunch during a time of fellowship.

Job creation program provides funding for Huron
The Corporation of the County of Huron
has been granted funding in the amount of
$18,150 for the pruning' and planting of
trees in the Town of Wingham under the
Unemployment Insurance Section 38 Job
Creation Program. This will result in five
jobs over a period of 50. work weeks.
The U.I. Section 38 Job Creation pro-
gram is designed to provide opportunities
for unemployed workers to maintain and
utilize their work skills during periods
when they are laid off and without other
employment
. The Town of Goderich has bee granted
funding in the amount of $73,33) for the
clearing of seventeen acres of b at the,.
Goderich Airport to make way for the new
runway. It is also funded by the job crea-
tion program, and will result' in 11 jobs
over a period of 210 work weeks
The Huron County Pioneer Museum has
been granted funding in the amount of
159,660 for the final stage in the expansion
and renovation of the Museum.
This will result in six jobs over a period
of 156 work Weeks.

The Junior Farmers ladies broomball
team recently held a 50/50 draw to raise
money for the team's ice time this season.
The winner of the draw is Leo Meidinger
of Zurich, Both Mr. Meidinger and the
Junior Farmers made $500 from the draw

WORKING TOGETHER
The Departmental Managers and all Hospital Staff have combined forces to raise approx-
imately $400 for the Hospital Building Fund with proceeds from their "Gourmet Escape
Raffle" Winners of the six "sinful" goody baskets were: 1st - Betty Hulley, 2nd - Laurie Mills,
3rd - L. Dale, 4th - Zelda Bannerman, 5th - Marg McClure and 6th - Marion McKay.
Seaforth Hospital Nurses have proven their skills one more time - this time for cooking abilities
All staff were invited to a potluck lunch. January 5, 1989 sponsored by the nurses and over
$200, for the building project was raised

to a romantic evening of candlelight dining (Mrs. Miller catering ) and dancing at Seaforth

ACTIVATION GROUP UPDATE
1. We made apple craft Mr. •& Mrs. Claus to add to the Christmas Decor - it was enjoyed
by both male and female patients.
2. We are working on the design of a stand up embroidery frame for our patients' use. We
have one particular patient in mind who is in a wheelchair and very keen to resume embroidery
work. If anyone has designs or ideas for our patients along these lines, we would welcome them.
3. We are planning Robbie Burns celebrations on Tuesday,anuary 24, 1989. We plan to have
poems recited, bag pipes played and a film on Scotland. If /anyone is interested in partaking
in any way please call Mary Marg Nash - 527-1650.
4. We have a new program developed called "Hair Care" for our patients. One day per month
one of four participating hair stylists will be available, on the premises for professional hair
,care.
5, Thank you to all who donated Christmas gifts for the in -patients over the holiday season
