CHRISTMAS THOUGHTS
OF MY HOMETOWN...
By: Julia Eckert -MacLean
This Christmas I am thinking
of the days when I was young:
Of frosty nights;
and coloured lights;
and Christmas songs, once sung.
I'm thinking of my hometown:
Of Seaforth,- long ago:
Of starry nights;
of twinkling lights;
and Christmas trees aglow.
And oh, my heart is yearning
to travel back again:
to small town folk,
and drink a toast
to Family, Neighbours, Friends!
Does the towering Christmas pine tree
Still stand above Main St?. .
Does Santa still greet little folk
With scrumptious candy treats?
Do children still line up to see
the Christmas Matinee???
(I guess the price is higher now
than it was in yesterday! )
Is the "Five and Dime" still standing? ,
Do children wait in line
to buy a gift,foir,Mom. and Dad
Like in that''bence upon a time
....w:..nwwmwstmila:Snne'N
Is the ice cream parlour
still th place
Where young teen-agers go? .
Do kids 11 ride the "runners /
of the cutte , through the snow?/"
Do skaters still go skimming
down on Silver Creek?
Then hurry home across the fields
to a wood stoves cosy heat!
Is St. James school still standing?
Is the old town hall the same?
Do young 'far still have sleigh rides
with horse and jingling reins!?
Oh! tonight I am remembering Seaforth
long ago!
with starry nights!
and coloured lights!
and Christmas trees aglow!
And in memory I travel back,
Across the years of time,
To Seaforth
and to Christmas -
In that "ONCE UPON A TIME..."
