DRYWALL KNOWN FOR HIGH QUALITY Peter Bakes Drywall COMPLETE DRYWALL SERVICE 527-1398 • CHOIR—The primary chdir at St. Patrick's Separate School in Dublin entertained at the Christmas concert -last week. Plays and Christmas songs entertained teachers and parents at the concert. (Photo by Svela) WilJ y ! r ew ¥e.rs resolution come true?' by Ttr lit Qa rrihlGW@P A couple of weeks ago wrote a column about how hate green Christmases. Ob viously my wish for a white Christmas didn't come true Oh well, maybe next year I'm sure that we are in fo enough snow without wishing for more. Here we are in a new year. Its time to turn over a new leaf and start fresh. This is the time of year when people make New Year's resolutions and promises to themselves to improve bad habits. Last week you may have noticed that 'Kids Teens and In Betweens and the birthday notices were missing from the Huron Expositor. This is not because the typesetters got lazy. No they're as keen as always. The reason for the missing column was sheer lazihess on my part. Unfortunately I can't say this was the first time my column was not in the paper°. However., 1 don't get lazy too often and most time it man- ages to make it to the office on time. (Better late than never, isn't that true? 1 don't think the editor agrees but she is always nice when Kids Teens and In Betweens arrives, even on a Tuesday after- noon!) If you haven't already guessed. one of my first new year's resolutions for this year is to have my column in every week by Monday unless I have a really good excuse. I'll have to work on my excuses this year! This is just one example of how a person can make a New Year's Resolution. I know a lot of students who can make New Year's resolut- ions. For instance, I think the students of SDHS should Make a resolution not to pick on Mr. Burgess and others "this year, This is a habit we must get out of! Another resolution we should consider is not to sit on the radiators in the front hall. This would relieve Mr. Pelss of a lot of worry! 1 know I am in the large crowd of students who should make a resolution not to struggle into school at three minutes to nine every morning and beg Mr. Scott and Mr. Shaw for a late Slip when we don't make it to class m time. Wc'11 have to work on it. Students aren't the otrfy people who can make New Year's resolutions. Maybe the teachers can get papers and tests marked and handed back to the studen's sooner iii the new year. Another area in which 1 have been terrible in this year is, forgetting my key for the punt box. The ladies at the post' office are witness to the fact. To them. and myself, • • 1 Attention Farmers WE, PAY 620. TO 150, PER HUNDRED WEIGHT POR OLD, RECENTLY INJURED OR CRIP. PLED COWS AND STEERS. MUST BE ALIVE AND DRUG FREE. CALL COLLECT 24 HeS. There are lots of New Year's resolutions that can be made by a great \group of people. Take for instance, 'This year 1 will stop smok- inlg....' How many time have you heard people say this?" Sometimes it works but more times than not they continue to inhale the smoke of cigaret- tes or cigaror pipe smoke into their lungs. Oh well. Another resolution similar to this one is the old saying "1'm going on a diet," or "Now that Christmas is over, I'm going to lose ten pounds." I wish it was that easy. 1t seems that on Christmas Day you tend to eat your share of turkey, dress- ing, potatoes, pie, pudding, cookies etc. and you vow that you are going to take those extra pounds off on Boxing Day. No go. We never consider that we will not finish all of the Christmas dinner and there will be left overs. So on Boxing Day and the day after that and the day after that and the day after that we continue to pig out on the Christmas leftovers and those extra pounds do not disappear. No, they increase. 5o on New Year's Day, we sit around vowing to ourselves that we will not eat an excessive amount AWhether we like it or not, a new meal is put out in front of us to feast our eyes on. Just to be polite, we have to cat all of those calories and make the cook and ourselves happy! Don't we? It seems that throughout the year, everytime you start yourself on a new diet, they introduce a new candy bar or brand of potato chips. Well. I'm sure that you can think of lots of Ncw Year's Resolutions for yourself, as t have, There are a lot of people that I am challenging myself Water Well - DRILLING W. D. JUNE 9, 1982 Huron County Board of Education trustees have given themselves a $100 a month increase for 1982. The arena fund is'going to be richer, and the public gets a chance to celebrate Can- ada's birthday • besides, thanks to Town and Country Canada Day celebrations sponsored by the recreation committee and Seaforth's Business Improvement Area (BIA). JUNE 16, 1982 Despite councillor Bob Dinsmore's contention that ."if this is enforced word for word we'd have problems with practically every proper- ty in town," Seaforth council passed a new property stan- dards bylaw Monday night. The Seaforth and district community centres campaign is over the half way mark with $302,522.50 in the hands of the committee, Marine Vin- cent who heads the fund raising reported, Wednesday morning. This represents 58.6 per cent of the campaign objective of $516;250.00 he said. JUNE 23, 1982 New Ontario Hydro trans- mission lines won't be going through Huron and Perth Counties. Seaforth PUC agree Thursday to support the O tario Municipal Electrj I Association (OMEA) in .16t opposition to Ontario Hydro's proposed rate increase's. On- tario Hydro is asking for a 54 per cent increase in the next three years and the OMEA and the many PUCs feel that the hike is too high. Seaforth's district landfill site committee is continuing its search for a dump location, councillor Alf Ross reported at c suncil's June meeting. But it's also looking at alter- native methods of garbage disposal. JUNE30, 1982 The second federal budget brought down by Finance Minister Allan MacEachen.in less than 'a year has caused much speculation. Huron MP Murray Cardiff said his office is still sorting things out, "it takes a while to digest the budget." He said the amount of borrowing the government will have to do is approximately $18 billion. We 'announce the sale of the Huron Expositor to Signal Star Publishing Ltd. of Goderich, effective at the close of business, June 30. WEDNESDAY, JULY 7 The July deadline for sewer hookups has passed with 70 homes yet to be connected, assistant clerk Ruth Sauve informed Brussels council at their regular meeting on Monday evening, July 5. Following a six month wait for a new dentist, Brussels residents can relax and reveal their bright smiles. Dr. Bi'll and Claudia Spink were wel- comed to Brussels at an open house on Monday evening at the Medical Dental Centre. When municipalities need, to find solgtions to tough problems, like Seaforth's re- quirement for a new dump, a phenomenon called' NIMBY" surfaces, NIMBY means, according to engineer Burns Ross, "Not In My Back Yard" and it's most people's immediate' reaction to the search for a dump site. , WED. JULY 14' A delegation from Tucker- s, smith explained the town- ship's request to help with its Vanastra Recreation Centre projected at $40.000 1982 deficit to Seaforth council Monday night.
