Staffa groups meet
Mrs. Jean Carey, presided
for the Christmas meeting of
the Marian Ritchie Evening
Auxiliary, in the nicely de-
corated church basement on
Tuesday evening.
• For her special number,
Mss. Duncan Scott had invit-
ed Miss Katie Kerslake who
displayed all her lovely han -
made Christmas items. las
Kerslake makes dolls, spirals
and house blessings from
wheat and she demonstrated
wheat wheat weaving. Mrs.
Carey opened the meeting.
Mrs. Ivan Norris played
' e piano.
Mrs. John Templeman had
the devotions.
Thirteen members and
seven visitors answered the
roll call by giving a Christ-
mas custom or tradition.
Mrs. Philip James chose
for. her topic a Christmas
reading.
Mrs. Robert Laing presid-
ed for the business portion,
when 1983 programs were
handed out and membership
fees paid. Everyone was
reminded of the annual
meeting off the Stratford
Presbytry ladies in St. And-
rew's Presbyterian Church
> on January 11. Mrs. Laing
showed a short film on the
South Pacific Islands, which
the group will study in 1983.
A potluck dinner preceed-
ed the Christmas meeting of
the Staffa Women's Insti-
tute, Dec. 15. Mrs. Ross
McPhail tlresided for the"
meeting opening with a`
poem "Christmas Mail".
Twenty-two members an-
swered the roll call with
a Christmas recipe and
sample. Mrs. Dalton Smale
gave a humorus reading.
"The Meanest Mother in the
World."
Eight members contribut-
ed to the program by bring-
ing an,d commenting on
different articles including a
bubble ring, Christmas de-
corations and favours, flower
arrangements, scarf clip,
Christmas coasters, afghan.

Between the carols Mrs.
McPhail commented on
Peace, in the World today,
the creche, a symbol of
Christmas and Hope for the
future. Mrs. Robert Mc-
Caughey accompanied on the
piano: Handyman hints were
given by Mrs. George Vivian
and they included suggest-
ions for gift wrapping. door
decorating, how to renovate
a blouse, uses for old electric
cord, tailor's ham, metric
measurements and how to
make fruit leather, plus some
for sampling.
The president Mrs. Lloyd
Miller presided for the bus-
iness. The course More
Cents Than Dollars led by
Mrs, Wm. Mahon and Mrs.
Arthur Smale will be held in
a one -day session in the
township hall sometime in
January. Anyone wishing to
take part is asked to contact
either Mrs.Mahon or Mrs.
Smale.
Mrs. Russell Worden vo-
ltinteered to deliver the
hamper of gifts for the
nursing home.
A fellowship hour was held
at the conclusion of the
service.
Mr. and Mrs. Cameron
Vivian, Mr. and Mrs. Dun-
can Scott and family. Mr.
and Mrs. George Vivian and
family, the Vivian family
Cromarty attended the Viv-
ian family Christmas on
Sunday at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon Vivian,
Mitchell.
Mr. and Mrs. Laverne
Wallace and - family and'Mr.
'and Mrs. John Renne and
family. attended the Wallace
family Christmas at Russel -
dale Hall on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Mc-
Cloud and girls attended the
McCloud family Christmas in
Bracebridge on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Day-
nard, Mr.ig'nd Mrs. Robin
Daynard and family were
guests at the wedding of
'Rosemary Ratcliffe in Kirk -
ton United Church on Satur-
day. Rev. Daynard partici-
pating in the ceremony.

Joast Drost and family at this
Christmas season is Joasts'
mother and brother from
Holland.
