Christmas! Christrnastthe time children
'look forward to with eager expectation --
Santa Claus, the.beautiful Christmas tree,
presents. It is a day for children. They make it
one of excitement and happiness. That is as it
should be for did not Jesus say "Let the little
ones come unto me," Then. let us not forget
to be sure the children know the true reason
for the festivalef Christmas. Why not, in the
quiet- of Christmas Eve,'read to them. a),

of Christ.
This year Christmas will not be a very '
merry one for thousands of Canadians. Those
who have lost their homes or business: the
'
ones who are unemployed: people who are
living below, or on the edge of the poverty
Zine: the elderly lonely ones who have no
fancily and few friends. For those who are
distressed by financial problems main of us
can do nothing but we can reach oui the hand
of friendship to the lonely ones in . this
Christmas season.

Never a Christmas morning,
Never the old year ends, •
But someone thinks of someone.
Old days, old times. old friends.

The five Huron county Bureaus have been
try{ng to make sUre that no needy child, or
family, in Huron County will have a
completely bleak Christmas. They have been
endeavouring to be able to provide a toy and
clothing for every needy child and food for a
family Christmas dinner. Those responsible
deserve credit for the work involved. May the
public be generous enough in their support
that their efforts will be successful.
h seems that gossip columnists in London
England arc bent on stirring up tales, there
--- gLain
and abroad. that will cause our Royal family
embarrassment. In a taped interview made
.by Nigel Dempster, gossip columnist, that
was broadcast on Britain's T.V. network, he
accused Princess Diana of having become a
bossy little monster who is making her
husband, Prince Charles, miserale and
desperately unhappy. A Buckingham Palace
spokesman has declared Dempster's remarks
"Rubbish." Diana, no doubt, has had
problem adjusting to the demanding life
expected of her as the wife of the future king
and mother of a son who will be his father's
successor to the throne. The' unceasing
publicity.and harassment by gossip column-
ists must make it all the more difficult. The
media of other countries (Canada included)
quickly pickup such. newsy items. Is this
particular gossip columnist deliberately
trying to stir up trouble? If they are having
' problems they should be left alone to resolve
them without the interference of such

This year there has been no Christmas rush •
and scramble here. No need to prepare for the
festive meal or 'pre -Christmas parties: no
• hauling out of a Christmas tree (not even the
tiny one) or ornaments or a lot of decorations
for rooms; just some Christmas candles and a
bit of holly to give a touch of Christmas to the
hone. There has been only the mailing of
cards and sending off appropriate gifts. A
cheque to family members dispasses nicely of
that. The recipients can then shop for
something they really want. No. I am not a
Scrooge nor have -I lost the spirit of
Christmas -just practical. The reason for all
this is that when you read this 1 will he

Robert and his fancily. That is happily looked
forward to for it will be a genial gathering of
family and assorted friends.
