A huge crowd enjoyed the afternoon. • (Photo by Wassink) r ss&&s I h The Majestic Wothen's Institute had 36 members and four irisitors enjoying a pot luck dinner at their Christmas meeting Dec. 8 in the Brussels Public Lib- rary. ib- rary. Following the dinner, the n4,cting opened by the Pres. Mrs. Marie McTaggart I he secretary, Leona Connelly read the minutes. The treas., Mrs. Laura Lucas reported the bazaar receipts were $331.80 leaving a ba- lance of $714.19. A short discussion was held on poss- ible Improvements on the next haiaar. Mrs. Ida Evans and Mrs. Marguerite Krauter moved that money for shut-ins be taken our of the sunshine hos. Mrs. Jane DeVries and Mrs. Doris McCall moved that $5 he donated to the ('.N I.B. Mrs. Peg Cudmore and ll�p s p rty Mrs. Mice McArter moved that $5 be given to Mrs. Jane McDonald to reserve a table at the Home and School annual Bake Sale to be held in the arena March 12. Mrs. Jane DeVries and Miss Annie Shantz moved that 525 be given to the Huron Day Centre for the Homebound, Huronview, Clinton. Mrs. Doris McCall voiced a suggestion on having a kitchen committee formed to look after the library kitchen. Mrs. Ida Evans and Mrs. Marie McTaggart volunteer- ed. Mrs. Jean Bewley gave a brief talk on reporting news in the Huron Expositor and she explained how mistakes can sometimes happen. The Roll Call- Something for the Christmas Boxes. A sing -song of Christmas music was led by Mrs. Wilma Hemingway with Lula Kerr at the piano. Mrs. Dorothy Steffler gave the topic, A Christmas Story. Ladies volunteering!' to helppack the shut-in boxes on Monday, Dec. 13th were: Mrs. Jane DeVries, Mrs. Leona Armstrong, Mrs. Marie McTaggart, Mrs. Isabel Adams. Mrs. Peg .Cudmore and Miss Laura Lucas. Mrs. Kathy Bridge and Mrs. Marie McTaggart will be attending the course on meals. "More Cents than Dollars", in. Holmesville The sunshine collection was collected by Mrs. Isabel Adams and a vote of thanks was expressed to the Branch Directors. Mrs. Illa McLarty, Mrs. Ruby Steiss and Mrs. Ida Evans for convening the dinner. ALLAN McCALL 887-6677 The Walton Unit Christmas meeting was held in the church basement, December 8. The losers of the Copper Contest entertained the win- ners when 31 members and guests sat down to a smorgas- bord supper at tables decor- ated in the Christmas colours and ornaments. Christmas carols were en- joyed accompanied by Mrs. Mildred Traviss at the piano and Mrs. Phyllis Mitchell with her violin. A short devotions followed with Mrs. Annie Reid reading the Christmas Story. Mrs. Phyllis Mitchell followed with the meditation., Mrs. Judi Weisbrod, lead- er of the winning side. thanked Mrs. Phyllis Mitchell of the loosing side for prepar- ing such a lovely evening. Mrs. Berva Watson brought in the slate of officers for 1983 as prepared by Mrs. Alice Searle: President - Mrs. Berva Watson, Mrs. Betty McCall; secretary- Mrs. Audrey' Hackwell, treasurer - Mrs. Marie Coutts; supper committee- Mrs. Alice Searle, Mrs. Elva' Bolger, Mrs. Ruth Thamer and Mrs. Alberta Stevens; quilt com- mittee -Mrs. Annie Reid, Mrs. Viola 'Kirkby and Mrs. Viola Traviss; visitation- Mrs. Mildred Traviss; Copper Contest leaders- Mrs. Doro- thy Sholdice and Mrs. Maxine Marks. An exchange of gifts were given out to everyone by Mrs. Alice Searle and Mrs. Laura Murray. Five boxes were packed to be delivered to shut-ins for Christmas. UNITED NEWS The Walton school children made up the choir for the Third Sunday in Advent at Duff's United Church, Sun- day morning. Mrs. Elva Wil - bee was organist. Mervin Smith greeted worshippers. U.shers were Keith Wilbee, Jim Cater and Lavern God - ,kin. Several Christmas carols were enjoyed. The Walton Public School choir was assisted by the vice principal Mary Ellen Walsh and accompanied by Mrs. Joan Vandendool'at the piano when they sang. . Mrs. Barbara Elston read the scripture lesson.. The Rev, Charles A. Swan told the children the story of the "Manger Scene". The sermon was on "Christ the King". Flowers in the church were in memory of the late Mrs. Mary Thornton, placed by the family. S.S. CONCERT & WHITE GIFT SRVICE • Sunday evening December 12 the Sunday School Concert and White Gift Service was held in the auditorium of Duff's Church. The Rev. Charles A. Swan gave a warm welcome after the children had filed in Mrs. Marie McGavin wa;• pianist. The kindergarten class gave recitations and sang, "0 Christmas Tree." Taking part were Valerie Collins, Colleen Collins, Chris Davies, Shannon Davies, Neil Saur, Christopher Saur, Chad McCallum, Colleen McCal- lum, Lisa Gingerich, Allan West>rook, Jeremy Scott and Patricia Clark. Teachers- Jeanre McDonald, Cheryl Fraser, Patricia Hackwell, Cathy McGavin. The Junior ,Choir told the White .Gift Story with Jim Clark, Tonia McClure and Manny Taylor taking part in the play, recitation by Steve Fritz. Others assisting were: Glenda Carter, Barbara Fin- layson, Bonnie 'Finlayson, Nancy Godkin, Sherry Hoegy, Leslie Hudie, 'Brian Love, Tonia McClure, Hea- ther McGavin, and Kelly Workman. Teacher -Helen Craig. "0 Little Town of Bethle- hem" was sung prior to the primary class putting on the. play, "The Night Before Christmas", Readers were Brett Lee, Greg Clark, Danny Taylor. Following grace hs 'Res John Roberts a bounteous supper of dishes as varied as the number of households represented was tested or consumed. Carols were sung with Mrs. George McGee at the piano. The Primary and Kinder- garten classes presented two numbers "Symbols of Christ- mas" and "Christmas Super. stitions". The Junior and Senior classes presented a half hour play entitled "Christmas Recaptured". Bags of candy were dis- tributed by Sunday School superintendent Donald Dow and the evening closed with more Carol singing. The W.M.S. met Decem• ber 6 at thc home of Mrs. Joe Dunbar. Mrs. Dunbar presided. Mrs. Gcorgc Fear read the scripture. " What makes Christmas?" was read by Mrs, Ivy Cloakcv. Mrs. Victor Younghlut led in prayer. Each lady present read a poem or story.
