Mitchell SPECIAL CHRISTMAS STORE HOURS: Monday, Dec. 27 OPEN 10 G.m.-6 p.m. LIM f TED eviditheted Notes are missed Melba ithco t ©A@g BY MABEL TURNBULL A message came from Brandon Manitoba today. Where are your notes? We are becoming away behind with the news of Kilbarchan? No! 1 haven't been taking a summer holiday. I've been working at them as hard as ever. Believe it, or not. The ministers have completed a holiday and are back again to be with us. Those meetings give me topics to relate 1 have been told from as far away as Ottawa that they enjoy the services on Wed- nesdays. As soon as the service is over 1 come back to my room and begin to write them up while they are fresh in my mind. 1 am always glad to hear favourable comments or otherwise. Isabel Scott. Brucefield came with a surprise, a perfect. dark, pink rose. I thought. for sure. i had already had the "last rose of summer," then on the 8th of November. Theileaves are so healthy and shiny with a strong stem. 1 will surely treasure it. Thanks so much to its giver. People - who grow roses have that generous trait of giving them to make others happy. It will grace our table for supper with Belle Papple to help me admire it also Bessie Smale, Mary Layton. Gladys Brightrall at our next table and Anna Hoegy. my roommate. Mr. and Mrs. Art Smale. Staffa with Bessie Smale. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fow- ler. Goderich, with Ada Armstrong. Jean Hildebrand brought her granddaughter Lindsay Sue Culbert of Goderich to visit us. She was runner-up in her class at the baby show at the Seaforth Fall Fair. We can understand why. Her greatgrandmother Bessie Smale shares her pride in this event. Paul Hildebrand visited Bessie Smale. He is a weekly visitor of Bessie Smale. He is an ex -pupil who gives me a welcome Hi! and also talks with Oliver and Charlie Mc- Kay which pleases them. Bob Archibald visited Anna and I this week bringing us each a big rosie apple, keeping alive his familiar name of "Apple" Bob. FINE RECORD Sometime ago a little leaflet coming with the Expositor telling of the Cid. crfest held by the Van Egmond House containing something of the early his- tory of the Huton Tract. Guelph to Goderich. 1 thought it was such a fine record 1 sent a copy to some of my friends including Bernvice Murray a secretary of the Muskoka Pioneer Village of which 1 am a 'Friend' for 53.00 which admits you free to their events of the year and also this fee is a mans of supporting the village. They have no particular character to attach their history to but it is in memur• of all the pioneers of Muskoka. They bring in buildings to repre- sent the early days. This is a new project since 1 taught there but it is probably. tf I were there I would be head over heels" in its support. It represents a whole village of early times. 1 follow its history from the local paper the 'Forester'. 1 would suggest if anyone. visits Huntsville they visit the Pioneer Village., Apples do not grow in Muskoka owing to the sub -zero temp- eratures. I knew of a crab- apple tree next door which produced but there were no good eating apples. Many people will remember that in the thirties we had a lot of sub -zero temperatures which killed most of the older trees David McKnight, Eg- mondville United Church took our Wednesday service in place of Rev. James Broadfoot whose name was on the list for today. He has left our town where he was in charge at St. Thomas Angli- can Church for Colchester. What we have lost will be their gain. • Marilyn McKnight ac- companied the hymns on her guitar. By special request Marilyn sang a solo "Just as 1 am" with her own accompaniment on the guitar. Mr. McKnight greeted all personally by name. VISITORS Luella Regele (as Luella fived with us for two years nursing my mother it is good to visit with her again). Brodhagen visited with Anna , and 1. She has been (riving us a fittle news of son Charles who is in Australia for six months employed on 'a farm with 90 cows. He is a graduate of Guelph Agricul- tural College. George Addison was on his 'walking tour' visiting Kil- barchan friends. Ella Hulley recently visited her son Frank and Betty who is a neighbour of Kilbarchan. LEGION LApIES Special call from the Leg- ion Ladies represented by Peg Coombs also had a shake with Cleve Coombs. The ladies do good work and are faithful to the cause. Alice Daly and 1 used to attend the Remembrance Day service at the Park faithfully. Those days seem to be gone but not the memory. Alice was such a faithful friend. 1 am thankful for my good me- mory. Special days take me down "Memory Lane." Father crossed the Atlantic ocean 22 times according to his record on business trips. James Davidson visited us on one occasion and brought beautiful Scottish Broaches. Mine a horseshoe with the traditional Scottish pe bier. EIla's a beautiful Scottish thistle and Mother's a broach with Scotia on it. Arnold received a tie pie. i remem- ber his visit well and what a jay to receive these broaches!
