The Christmas story is part of the continuing story of the love between man and God. The second • candle of Advent (for the Unemployed) was lit with Leeann Artttt�h strong and Jacquie McCut- cheon conducting the cere- mony. Gail Semple and Peggy Gibson, sang two duets: "Gloria" and "Glory to God In the Highest". The Sacrament of Baptism was celebrated when Robert and Susan Pipe presented their child. Matthew John Pipe. Next Sunday will be Communion. St. Ambrose Church opened with the hymn "I 'tam.— with Pat Nolan as organist. Other hymns were: "You Are Near % "They will Know We are Christians" and "Every Valley". The reader for Dec. is Joe Steffler; Altar boys- Tony and Ronnie Terpstra and Greg Ryan. Offertory gifts were taken by Jeff and Lori Terpstra. The homily was on "Gossip'. It not only hurts the individual but is like a cancer to society on the whole. Ushers were Ben Terpstra and Lawrence Ryan. There were two baptisms: Rachel Anne. daughter of Carmie and Dayle Newman; 'Adam William, son of Ivonne and John Albert's. Coffee was served to the parishioners • afterwards. ' A White Gift Service was held at the United Church when the Sunday School pupils gathered with the Brussels THE HURON EXPOSITOR, DECEMBER 8, 1982 — A13 Cranbrook baby in hospital regular congregation. Music was provided by the Sunday School classes as well as the regular choir. Marty Rut, - ledge acted as narrator for the drama, "What Child is This", presented by the Grade V and VI classes. Cindy Bernard and Jay Hahn conducted the ceremony of lighting the second Advent Candle. The kindergarten and Nursery Classes sang "Here We Go to Bethlehem" and "Away in a Manger". The Evening Unit of the U.C.W. entertained more than 30 ladies from Ethel United Church and Brussels U.C. in the basement of the church on Tuesday evening. Karen Cardiff. president. opened the meeting with a reading "Oh Lord You Were Born... Jose orn '- Jose Carpentier asked for vct�tnleers to help with the day morning' nursery during the winter months. "Oh Little Town of Bethle- hem" was sung and the Rev. Carpentier read the Christ- mas story. Evelyn bemary led in prayer. Six Christmas numbers were sung by the Inter- mediate Choir under the direction of Sheila Richards with Larke McDonald accompanying. Jeanette Boynton gavea reading entitled "Our Gifts to our Children". Tracy Mayer sang two numbers with her grandmother. Karen Cardiff. accompanying her. Anne Kernaghan played three numbers on the flute and Larke McDonald, gave reading entitled "Christ- mas". Jeanette Boynton gave a humourous reading with serious overtones entitl- ed "I Like Christmas". Rev. Carpentier closed with prayer. The members of the Even- ing Unit turned in their "Bakeless Bake Sale" enve- lopes which netted 567. Tea and Christmas treats were served by Mrs. Gordon Stephenson. Mrs. Brian Sanderson, and Mrs. Ken Barber. The meeting was planned by Mrs. Karen Cardiff and Mrs. Rene Rich- mond. • Jack Bryans spent the weekend at the home of his daughter Barbara in Burling- ton. Barbara. who was in hospital has returned to her apartment and is improving under the care of her mother. who will remain with her for another week. Mr. and Mrs. Geoff Alcorn. Alex and Joyce were presented with a fare- well gift and a social time followed. Mrs. Doug Conley is a patient in the Listowel Hospital where she under- went surgery on Friday.
