Ringette on the rise
BY KRIS SVELA
The sport of Ringette is enjoying an
increase in popularity in Seaforth with
registration almost double over last year's
hgures. There are presently 41 players
registered on three teams. a Junior, Senior
and House League team. The House League
is a new addition to' the sport in Seaforth
which did not have a House League last
year. There are presently 18 players in the
House League. dividing up the team for
games and practices.
In the Senior division there are four teams
competing. The teams represent Seaforth.
Howick. Brussels and Listowel. .In the
Junior division there are three teams,
Seaforth. Goderich and Exeter.
According to Rita Core. a representative
for the sport in Seaforth, the players and
parents have done an excellent job in
raising funds to cover the team expenses.
She estimates that the registration fees
cover about SO ner cent of til.• rnr•.I ,•„sts
withy the remainder coming from various
projects. such as bake sales, rummage sales
and from the Booster Club which helps to
raise funds, .
the Ringette season is just barely
underway with the teams looking forward -to
playing in the new arena.

Centenaires recover from loss
BY GARY GRAY
The Jr, Centenaires scored
three second period goals
and held off heavy pressure in
the third frame from Mt.
Brydges as they gained a 5-5
tie against the Southern
division leading Bulldogs.
The tie for the Centenaires
gave them their first point on
the, road this season. The
game was a see saw battle
throughout with the Bulldogs
scoring first and then the
Centenaires coming back
with, goals from Dwayne La
Porte and John Hicknell less
than a minute apart to give
the locals a 2-1 lead. Mt.
Brydges deadlocked the
game at 17:48 to round out
the first period scoring.
Shots on goal in the period
were 14 a piece with both
goaltenders (Dan McClure of
the Centenaires and John
Carruthers of the Bulldogs)
making several point blank
saves. Mt. Brydges took a
3.2 lead early in the second
period but the Centenaires
Lame right back just 13
seconds later with a shol•t•
handed goal by Jamie Mc-
Clinchey to once again knot
the score. At just about the
hal way mark of the period
the Bulldogs regained the
lead for the third time 'but
again the Centenaires came
back to tie the socres. This
time it was Jim Campbell
connecting for his 10th goal
of the season on a power play
effort set up by John Hick-
nell.
The Centenaires kept
pressing the Bulldogs in
their own end and finally
with only 47 seconds remain-
ing in the period John Dale
scored his first goal of the
season by • finishing off a
three way nassina play with
Campbell and Hicknell to,
give the -Centenaires a 5.4
lead after two periods. This
time the Centenaires held a
narrow 15-13 margin in shots
on goal.
The third stanza saw the
Centenaires start to weaken
defensively and as a result
the Bulldogs were able to get
the equalizer at 4:37 on a
power play with Dale in the
penalty box. Dan McClure
kept the Centenaires in the
period by coming up with
several glorifying saves as
the Bulldogs. outshot the
locals 15-8. The Centenaires
picked up 8 minor penalties
compared to 7 by Mt.
Brydges in the wide open
game.
LUCAN H CENTENAIRES 2
Last Wednesday in Lucan
the Centenaires came up
with perhaps their poorest
effort of the season as they
were totally humiliated by
the hard hitting swift skating
Irish in an 11 2 drubbing.
Lucan lead 4-1 after the first
frame and 5-1 aftef the
second and then outscored
the locals 6-I in the final
frame, Lucan fired a total of
53 shots at the Centenaire
goaltending duo of Dan
McClure and Brad Campbell,
while Irishgoalie Paul
I
Creighton had a total of 24
shots. Jim Campbell and
Dave Murray scored for the
Centenaires in the first and
third periods respectively. A
total of 125 minutes in
penalties were called by
referee Ed Winkworth with
Lucan picking up 63.minutes
and the Centenaires 62.
Included in Lucans total were
two fighting majors. 2 game
misconducts, and a match
penalty for spearing. The
Centenaires had two fighting
majors and two game mis-
conducts. The Irish scored
fpur powerplay goals and two
shorthanded goals in the
victory.
Centenaire Scents: Two
must games are on the
Centenaires schedule for this
weekend. On Friday (Dec. 3)
they host the Port Stanley
Lions in Hensall at 8:30. The
Lions edged the Centenaires
6-5 in Port Stanley earlier in
the season. ,On Sunday night
the Centenaires travel to
Exeter to tangly the Hawks
in what could be called a four.
