fall Thankoffering meeting
Oct. 27th. The W.M.S. presi-
dent Mable McMichael open-
ed the meeting.
Scripture was, read by
Nancy Turnbull and medita-
tion by Mrs. Duke. Prayer by
Edythe Coleman, Janet Cluff
and Joan Von Rooijen re-
ceived the offering
Music was provided by
Carol Carter at the piano and
six of the -First Church choir
girls sang a number.
Mrs. Duke introduced the
special speaker Mrs. E.
Knight from Exeter.
Barbara Rivers gave the
courtesy remarks.

.TURKEY VAS featured at the annual Egmondville United Church turkey
supper last Wednesday. All members of the church participated, serving
600 people at three sittings. Cooked for the meal were 22 turkeys. Carving
a turkey is Norm McLean. A taste test revealed the bird was tender, moist

teams to to the Zone at Blyth
last Sat. with both teams
making the District tourna-
ment to be held in March. The
team of Jack Eisler, Don
Eaton. Bill Wilbee and Al
Nicholson won the tourna-
ment and the team of Jim
Watson, Gavin Gemmell. Jim
Burdge and Paul Doig came
sixth. Congratulations com-
rades, practice must pay off.
Our membership commit-
tee are hard at work now, at
the Early Bird Campaign.
Remember comrades dues
are only $15 yet, but as of the
first of January 198.3 will be
517. The winner of the Oct.

draw will•be announced next
week.
Nov. 1 marked the begin -
ding of Remembrance Day

of that day. we may wear a
poppy until Remembrance
Day Nov. I Ith. This Saturday
evening will be the Veterans
Banquet at the Legion Halt.
Anyone not having been
contacted wishing tickets
please get in touch with Dick
Whiteley at once. Tickets
might be available.
On Sunday Nov. ' will be
our annual Church
parade. This year the service
will be at the Egmondville
United Church. 1 do not know
the arrangements as yet but
we will probably be briefed at
the banquet. Those not at-
tending the banquet. 1 would
suggest to be at the branch
about 10:15 a.m. After the
church parade our annual
poppy drive will be held. We
hope we will have a good turn
out for this event. Remember
Comrades many hands make
'light work and the whole
community can be canvassed
in a couple of hours.
Last week another of our
First W,ar veterans passed
away. To the relatives and
friends of Lorne Dennis we
extend the sympathies of the
membership.
They shall not grow old, as
we that are left grow old. Age
shall not weary them nor the
years condemn. At the going
down of the sun and in the
morning we will remember
them.

Area students receive -
county scholarships

Huron County students in
post secondary school stud-
ies will receive $200 scholar-
ships from the county.
Huron county council ap-
proved the scholarship list at
its Oct. 28 session.
Joanne E. Wood of Wing -
ham and Brian R. Ray of
Seaforth. both students of
the University of Western
Ontario will receive $200.

A special anniversary Sun-
day evening program was
featured on October 24 (vhen
the Egmondville United
Church 1982 Communicant's
Class gave a colour slide
presentation of their recent
week-long motorhome trip to
historic Virginia.
Highlights were the visit to
Luray. Virginia's Luray Cav-
erns and a 30 mile section of
the Skyline Drive in the Blue
Ridge Mountains,
The group toured "Monti-
cello'. the colonial mansion
which Thomas Jefferson
spent 40 years building and
Jamestown site of the first
permanent settlement of
English colonists in America.
Busch Gardens. Virginia's
large entertainment park.
was a fun filled day. In
Washington D.C. the group
took in sights such as White
House. Capitol Building and
Arlington Cemetery and the
tomb of Pres. John F. Ken•
nedy.
The Communicants' Class
have started raising money
for their next trip, by having a
Halloween Party. which was
enjoyed by local children. ,
Two Goderich students at
the University of Waterloo,
Bradley Hamilton and John
Trebish will each receive a
Huron County scholarship.
Terry Baker of Hensall, a
student at Ridgetown Col-
lege of Agricultural Techno-
logy will also receive a S200
scholarship.
Three Huron students at
the University of Guelph will
receive scholarships. They
. are Christopher Meier of
R.R. 4, Brussels, Bevan
Shapton of R.R. 1. Exeter
and Mary Jane Visser of R.R.
5, Seaforth.
