Ladies Night by Blyth and
Brussels Mason Lodges was
held in Brussels Legion Hall
Oct. 2.
Non -masons and wives or
lady friends joined with mem-
bers for this social event.
Social hour was 6 p.m. to 7
p.m. followed by dinner
served by the Legion Ladies
Auxiliary.
The program included
Scottish and Irish tunes on
bagpipes by Rick Elliott;
solos and duets by Mae
Godden, Mrs. Alf Sutton ,and
Donald Dunbar accompanied
by Alf Sutton and readings by
Clifford Coultes.
Guest speaker was Bruce
McCall. His subject was
Masonry -what it is all about.
Masonry is based on religious
beliefs, teachings and princi-
ples of living; such as bro-
therly love for all people,
relief for the , needy. and

A short agenda resulted in a short Brussels
council meeting Monday evening. All mem-
bers were present. •
This was the last council meeting before
the closing date for nominations for munici-
pal elections. Nominations have to be filed
with the municipal office by Monday. October
18. Elections will be held Monday, November
8.
Councillors who will seek re-election
include Elizabeth Graber, Gordon Workman
and Hank, Ten Pas. Councillor Stu Parker
would not make a decision but said a
"definite maybe". Reeve Cal Krauter will
also seek re-election.
A ratepayers' meeting is scheduled for
today (Thursday) at 8:00 p.m. in the library,
The public is invited to attend to question
council concerning municipal matters.
Council was informed that four planters
remain to be constructed, part of the summer
works program. Wayne Higgins requested an
additional 30 hours to complete the project.
Councillor Ten Pas felt Wayne "is doing a
good job and might as well finish them." The
decision was accepted:
Snowplowing tenders for 1982-83 will be
.,advertised with tenders to be submitted to
the municipal office by Monday. November 1,

state the successful bidder will receive 510

Reeve Krauter informed council that
Huron County paid $l0 per day standby last
season, whether plowing is or isn't clone.
When asked by councillor Workman,
"what happens if nobody tenders?" council-
lor Ten Pas replied, "we'll get snowed ,
under!" \.
Considerable discussion was spent con-
cerning Hallowe'en. To contend with the
possible horror show and patrol the streets,
council advised Dave Hastings to hire extra
help for Saturday and Sunday evenings,
October 30 and 31. The fire department will
be asked to place two firemen on call for the
event. John Pipe will alternate with Mr.
Hastings during the two evenings.
"1 hope it rains and takes the spunk out of
pranksters." said Mr. Hastings. Councillor
Parker said most kids will be trick or treating
' on Saturday evening. "We have to prepare
now for what may happen', stated councillor
Workman. He said any damage caused is
"malicious damage. whether its Hallowe'en
night or not. It's basically a reason to steal."
Benches will be taken off the street to
discourage vandalism. Those assisting Mr.
Hastings will receive $6.00 par hour. The
firemen will be paid standby time,

September 28.
Members and guests were
welcomed by Mrs. Ross An-

The Resource Centre in
