Not only was the sun shining brightly and temperatures rising, this was a day to honour some very important people. Last Sunday was Grandparent's Day. We have special days to honour our mothers and fa- ther. birthdays ,and even Hallowe'en. - Equally impor- tant, if not more important compared to Hallowe'en is Grandparent's" Ikay. For all of the things that they do for us throughout the year, they deserve a great deal of thanks. From the day we are born, we learn who are our friends and who are not. Of course the love that is given to us by our parents and family is a good indication of friends. Families have a way of showing affection and under- standing. However, parents have to discipline their child- ren. Grandparents have no rules to make, no curfews to set, -and they don't have to GRACE CO i MUNOTY CHURCH Huron Centennial School 3RUCEFIELD, ONT. 482-9260,565-5341 and 236-4979 10:00 a.m. - Family Bible School 11:00 a.m. - Speaker Randy Mann pay for dentist outs so candy is no problem. Grandmothers are famous for baking good- ies, teaching you how to play games and keeping several photographs of you through- out her house. Group leader Robert Lang- lois, announced that billet arrangements for the 10 Katimavik participants were largely completed. More families than the number required have come forth with offers to accomodate the Katimavik volunteers for the two-week billet period which begins at the conclusion of Ciderfest, September 26. During the billet period, the participaelts will assume work responsibilities with the • host family and participte actively in the regular family routines of the household. The billet experience is ex- pected to provide a meaning- ful taste of Seaforth com- munity life. The committee also re- ceived progress reports from the various work sites which .Wud iOehp X4194 ovi s v, 4yq b e 61®(x9 Rtiy •y ., o+•n.Tan,...r " 't4 r.'t'7.1 w.AYJ.i.•N 1044 Clii e4 . , c include the Optimist Park, Lions Park, the Van Egmond House, the Hullett Wildlife Conservation Area, .Seaforth Public School and the Early Childhood Learning Centre.' With the exception of some sponsor work supervision problems, all sponsor groups reported good progress with work assignments. The public is invited to an open house at the Seaforth home of Katimavik, the Scott house north off Harpurhey on Sunday, Sept. 19 from 2 to 6 p.m. ' Katimavik will participate with the sponsor groups in a publicity booth at the Sea- forth Fall Fair next week and the Seaforth group expects help from neighbouring Ka- timavik gropps to assist with the BIA/Van Egmond Cider - fest on September 25 and 26. The first rotation ends on .October 13 with the Seaforth group moving to a new location in British Columbia. A second group, from Que- bec, will move, into the Seaforth house and com- mence work on October 18. her walls and refrigerator with letters and artwork done by a small child. A grand- mother is someone who takes pride in dressing up her grandchildren and introduc- ing them to friends. A grandmother is someone • who is eager to listen to stories about school and friendships. A grandmother is a great person to write letters to; since more often than not you'll get one in return. A grandmother is someone to keep grandpa company. What is a grandfather? A grandfather is someone who can make you laugh, even when you're in the worst of moods. A grandfather is a person you can tease and take teasing from. A grandfather is someone who insists on treating you to peppermint lifesavers. A grandfather is someone to keep a grand- mother busy. SPECIAL Grandparents are very special. They give so much and expect so little in return. They have a quiet sort of lifestyle. They are great for showing you older things, such as farm utensils, furni- ture and clothes. Playing house at Grandma's and Grandpa's house is often more fun than at home for children. Grandparents have all sorts of dress -up clothes and toys. 1 remember well the tea set that 1 used to play with at my grandparents with my cousins years ago. We had the best of times and often my grandmother would sup- ply a drink and cookies. We were thrilled. Grandparents are like that. It's just the simple little things that they do for us that makes life so special. Take for example all of the cards they send whether it be your birthday, graduation, Christ- mas, Easter or if you're sick. They make each of these occasions more exciting by their thoughtfulness. Think about it. Grandpar- ents are very important and caring people. They deserve a special day set away in the year as much as anyone. Chances are that you've miss- ed Grandparent's Day last Sunday but it's not too late to write a letter or phone your grandparents this Sunday. For all that they have done, they probably deserve it. - If you know of anyone celebrating their birthday soon, please send their name age and birthday to The Huron Expositor, Box 69, Seaforth, Ont. or phone 527-0240.
