Residing with his parents on the family farm, five miles south-east off Dublin. Murray has spent two years training his award winning horse, Miss Opie Otoe. A registered Palamino quarter horse, Miss Opie Otoe is four years old. Murray's mother said her son started riding at a horse show in Mitchell "and grew and grew." The Smiths purchased a Shetland pony for their daughter. and it wasn't long before Murray took over the reins. Besides working on the farm, Murray spends an hour per day practicing for the next show. The dedication and training is paying off as can be seen through the point standings. Winning All-round amateur eight times, Murray's most recent win was during the quarter, horse show at the C.N.E. During the first day of competition, he won two firsts; two seconds, a fourth and two, fifth place ribbons. The wins tied him for first place for all-around amateur that day. At the end of the second day, Murray was awarded for all-round amateur. Attending two to three shows per weekend during summer months, .arid travelling from Windsor to Ottawa, Murray estimated his wins have covered his expenses. In addition is the cost of outfitting horse and rider which Murray estimates at over $1,000. When asked how the horse feels about the pace, Murray said the horse does get bored. "She was given a two week rest to straighten out her mind," says Murray. Plans for the immediate future are to "take it easy next year",.although he does plan to show at area clubs. With his high point standings,•'Murray said his horse has more than doubled or tripled in value. His plan is to sell Miss Opie Otoe.
