As my , association with McLean Bros.
Publishers comes to a close my sincere
gratitude is expressed to A.Y. McLean for his
many kindnesses to me over the years; for his •
0 helpfulness to my late husband while he was
the publisher of The Brussels Post; for his
consideration and support in the years of
Roy's illness and at the time of his death.
Words are inadequate, to express my
appreciation. fit has been a pleasure to be a
member of the staff of the Brussels Post.

Prince Charles and Diana finally carne to
an agreement on a name for their infant son.
He will be known as Prince William of Wales.
As is royal custom he has been given more
than the usual one or two names. Those
chosen for the young prince are. William,
Arthur, Philip, Louis. God forbid, that when

MacEachen's budget aroused the ire of
Canadians from coast to coast and sent up
howls of protest all across the land. The cold,
hard fact is that this country is in a deplorable
state of economic crisis.
Every Canadian is going to ha,ve to share
the struggle to bring us out of the chaotic
situation we are in. It matters not who we
blame our troubles on, Prime Minister
Trudeau and his Liberal government, Union
leaders, big business, the USA. or recognize
that Canada is not the only country in such a
state. ,
Most industrialized countries find them-
selves with like problems. This inevitably
influences Canada's situation. Wherever lies
the blame, for what we must sacrifice in
lifestyle, we must each face up to our own
problems and endure in order to get our

Sympathy goes •to the thousands of the

business or farm; those who are filled with
anxiety for their future.
Perhaps we flew too high when times were
so good. We sought, and got help from
governments in various areas.
Now we are paying a high price for our own
mistakes and the bungles of unskilled
leadership. Canada Survived the depression
and woes of the thirties.
God grant our nation's leaders the
foresight and unselfish courage, with the
help of all of us, to lead us out of this so-called
recession.

The people of the Brussels community are
somewhat upset and unhappy because they
will no longer have a newspaper of their very
own.
The Brussels Post has-been theirs for over
110 years and the final edition last week was
an unpleasant surprise.
This sort of thing is happening every-
where, not only in the, publishing business. It
is One result of economic conditions.
The Brussels Post has not passed out of
ekistence, ft is being continued as part of The
Seafforth Huron Expositor.
We are sure Signal Star Publishing of
Goderich will have the interests of Brussels in
mind and will give subscribers the best
possible coverage.

In spite of all the trouble this country is in at
the present time, and the budget which has
stirred resentment in many of us. Canadians
by the thousands gathered in many centres to
.celebrate the 115th birthday a Canada on
Canada Day (which the present government
insists on -calling it instead of Dominion Day).
The day was marked with flying flags,
parades, speeches, music, song, dance,
aerobatics and fireworks, the swearing in of
hundreds of New Canadians and quietly in
homes with the knowledge that, with all the
difficulties, Canada' is one of the best — a
great country to live in.
The'celebrations began with the dawn on
the east coast and spread across central and
western Canada as the day wore on.
People remembered the good things
Canada meant to them. Freedom from
tyranny with no fear of the disappearance in
the night of a loved one, never to be seen
again; freedom of speech and religion,
denied elsewhere in the world: freedom from
murderous guerillas in our midst: the
abundance the land offers us; the bequest of
hardy pioneers -the ability to withstand
hardship and survive.
They thought of these things. They
celebrated.
Cheer up! Take heart! Every cloud, they
say, has a silver lining.
