Clinton News Record, 2015-09-30, Page 9Video dance to support Shriners Laura Broadley Clinton News Record Do you want to have a good time? Do you want to do it for a worthy cause? Join the Bluewater Shriners Fire Bri- gade at the BX 93 video dance party. Three big video screens playing primar- ily country music will be at the REACH Centre on October 9. The dance was organized because the Shriners were looking for another way to generate revenue for the group's activities. The Shriners are dedicated to 22 hos- pitals that it owns and operates throughout North America. The Shriners are devoted to helping children and families in need. Shriners Hospitals for Children provide care in its specialties of orthopaedics, burn care, spinal cord injury and cleft lip and palate. All of these services are done regardless of the family's ability to pay. "We do it outside of the governmen- tal system. It's something we fund our- selves," said Michael Stilwell of the Bluewater Shrine Fire Brigade. It's about $3 million per day to oper- ate the hospitals and about $1 million per day for research. "We actually lead to world in research in certain genetic disorders, treatments for burns and some spinal cord injury rehabilitation," said Stilwell. There hadn't been a dance done in the area for a long time, explained Stilwell. The average age of Shriners are "sea- soned" so the organization knew it had to enlist the help of another service club. The Clinton Kinsmen are teaming up with the Shriners to help get momen- tum going with the younger crowd. "Generally speaking [the Kinsmen] is a young men's organization," explained Stilwell. The Kinsmen have been successful in running its P1ucKIN'Fest and Ladies Nights and Stilwell thought it would be a good opportunity for both clubs to show what it's good at doing. The Shriners are hoping to attract attendees from all over the area and thought the Kinsmens' connections to the wider area would draw a bigger crowd. The event takes place at the REACH Centre in Clinton starting at 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. It is a licensed event so proof of age is required. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased from Bucky Joe's in Vanastra, Winston's Men's Wear in Goderich, REACH Cen- tre and through any Kinsmen. Thanksgiving HOLIDAY DEADLINE...
