Glory! Denise Pellet' with
London Pro Musics Choir
It's a collaboration made in
heaven: award-winning gospel
singer Denise Pelley performs
with London Pro Musica Choir
in a joint fundraising event
organized by the Huron Country
Playhouse Guild and the Lon-
don Pro Musica Choir. The con-
cert takes place at the Playhouse
on Saturday, September 26.
London Pro Musica Choir is
known for the variety and
vibrancy of its repertoire, which
ranges from classical to recent
compositions from musical the-
atre to roots music. However,
this gospel concert dubbed
Glory Hallelujah has proved to
have enduring popularity.
After premiering the gospel
program in London in 2012, the
choir took it on the road as a fea-
tured performance at the New
Hamburg Live! Festival of the
Arts, and now brings this live
and lively event to the Huron
Country Playhouse.
One reason for this longevity
is the performance of Pelley as
the guest soloist. Pelley is one of
Canada's favourite jazz, pop and
gospel singers, and in April of
this year was inducted into the
London Music Hall of Fame. At
the Huron Country Playhouse,
she will be backed by her long-
time accompanist, pianist Ste-
phen Holowitz and other fea-
tured musicians will include
pianist Grace Yip, guitarist Earl
Filsinger, bass player Junior Rig-
gin and drummer Stephan
Szczesniak.
The energetic program will
include traditional spirituals,
songs made famous by the
Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and
the Manhattan Transfer, compo-
sitions by Stephen Hatfield,
Andre Crouch and Sally K.
Albrecht, as well as gospel
arrangements of music by con-
temporarypop composers such
as Paul Simon, Bill Withers and
Michael Jackson.
The concert will be conducted
by London Pro Musica Artistic
Director Dr. Vicki St. Pierre, who
this fall joins the musical faculty
of Mount Allison University, but
who will return to lead the choir
in most of the LPM perfor-
mances in 2015/2016, the choir's
46th season. Other concerts this
year will include Handel's Mes-
siah, with the musicians of
Orchestra London; Dickens'
Christmas Carol performance
with actors from the Stratford
Festival; a concert featuring the
works of Rossini in March; and
in May, the rollicking Last Night
of the Proms.
London Pro Musica Choir has
garnered some glowing reviews
of late. Earlier this year, James
Reaney said the choir was "hav-
ing a strong and innovative
year." Reviewer Brian Hay wrote,
"London Pro Musica shone
more brightly than ever, as they
seem to each time out." The
choir was honoured as London's
"Best Classical Vocal Group of
the Year" this year.
This concert is sponsored as a
fundraiser by the Huron Coun-
try Playhouse Guild, a volunteer
organization comprising more
than 100 community volunteers
dedicated to providing assis-
tance to the Huron Country
Playhouse, one of the crown
jewels in summer stock theatre.
The Guild has provided support
to operating programs and capi-
tal campaigns through unique
fundraisers and special events
Most recently, the Guild pledged
$250,000 to the theatre's Legacy
Campaign for grounds beautifi-
cation and accessibility.

Zombies invade Windmill
Lake this October
Looking for a fun run this fall?
If you dare, brave the trails at
Canada's only wind -driven saw
and gristmill at the Spooky Trail
Run, hosted by the Alzheimer
Society of Huron County the
morning of October 3 at Wind-
mill Lake Wake & Eco Park.
Run the two or five kilometre
trail, and try to survive the zom-
bies who will be lurking in the
woods and along the lake trail.
You'll receive three lives and
your goal is to "survive" the
course by making the finish line
with at least one life remaining.
"This concept is really a
chance for all levels of runners
to run together in a campy, and
totally bizarre run, on a fantastic
new trail, that makes for a ton of
fun," said Brittany Williams,
events coordinator at the Alzhei-
mer Society.
For those runners who are
intrigued but not entirely sure
they want to have zombies com-
ing after them, there's the option
to run the trail as an "invisible",
where you just get to run by and
watch the zombies take on the
runners around you!
There's something for the kids
as well, with the Spooky Kids
Dash at 9:45 a.m., where only
the friendly zombies will be
haunting the short track for the
little ones. Costumes are
encouraged for the kids and
welcome for adults as well.
The Alzheimer Society would
love to hear from you if you'd
like to volunteer as a zombie on
the trails for the morning.
Make-up artists will be on site to
zombifyyou up or you can arrive
pre-zombified.
Five kilometre runners will get
a race t -shirt and two kilometre
runners will receive a water bot-
tle. All kids that participate in
the race will get a prize at the
finish line.

tration for the Spooky Trail Run,
