Clinton News Record
Students at CHSS will now
have the opportunity to
graduate high school with a
high skills major.
The Specialist High Skills
Major (SHSM) is for grade 11
and 12 students who want to
focus on a career after high
school.

Ten CHSS students got the chance to get certified at the school
last Thursday. Working at heights certification is a requirement
brought in by the Ontario government earlier this year.

It is for students who are
looking at all different paths,
like apprenticeship, training,
college or university.
Students who graduate in
the SHSM program receive a
specialized stamp on their
high school diplomas.
A requirement of the pro-
gram is that students come
away with industry certifica-
tions like first aid, CPR and/
or working at heights.
Ray Greidanus, tech
department head at CHSS,
said he wants to encourage
all parents and students to
look into the benefits of
enrolling in the program.
Ten students are now cer-
tified to work at heights after
participating in a daylong
program at CHSS. Some stu-
dents are preparing for work
and others are getting certi-
fied before they head off to
co-op placements.
As of April 2015 the gov-
ernment of Ontario requires
that employers ensure that
certain workers have com-
pleted a working at heights
training program.
The programs have to be
approved by the chief pre-
vention officer and delivered
by an approved training
provider.
The training is for people
who might work on con-
struction projects that
potentially use a travel
restraint system, fall
restricting system, fall
arrest system, safety nets
and work belts and safety
belts.
More information on the
SHSM program can be found

Ashley Stevenson and Abigail Watson take part in the daylong
course to become certified to work at heights. Both girls
are doing co-op placements that require them to have the
certification.
The Specialist High Skills Major is for grade 11 and 12 students
wanting to develop their skills in a specific area. Students leave
high school with a number of industry certifications.

ers coming back, said Tyndall.
Tyndall said there are about
25 doors painted including
both back and front doors.
The campaign isn't finished
and the BIA is still encouraging
everyone to partake. She said

The reaction from the com-

people continue to add pops of

The BIA is committed to the
appearance and feel of the

the town to maintain the flow-

The association's plans to
