It's amazing what a com-
munity can accomplish
when it bands together.
On September 13 runners
and walkers joined Virtual
High School and the Bayfield
Optimist Club for a five kilo-
metre route around the vil-
lage to raise money for a
good cause.
This year Virtual High
School decided to support
the Make -A -Wish founda-
tion of Southwestern Ontario
because it guaranteed the
money would be used to
help a local child.
Reiko Quinlan is a 5 -year-
old boy who lives in Huron
County and wants to com-
plete a wish with his parents
and two brothers, Kai and
Xander.
The annual Run4Kids was
started in 2012 after teachers
were inspired by a student
who had been battling can-
cer. They wanted to make it
easier for him to go through
school and so they banded
together to raise money so
he could continue classes at
Virtual High School.
Inspired by the success of
the event the school decided
to make it an annual event.
This year the run was pre-
ceded by yoga and live
entertainment by local band,
Sal's Alley. Organizers also
handed out prizes for the
first, second and third place
winners in the male and
female category.
Racers edge towards the starting line to support the VHS
Run4Kids.
The third annual VHS Run4Kids Reiko
Quinlan was joined by his brothers,
Kai, Xander and their parents Jessica
and Derek on September 13.

Clinton or Goderich: The garbage debate
Laura Broadley
Clinton News Record
The time has come to figure
out what we're going to do
with our garbage.
The Mid -Huron landfill has
about two years left before
another location will be
needed to handle the area's
waste.
There is almost 6,000
tonnes of waste in the three
municipalities of which just
over 4,000 tonnes will end up
in a landfill.
There are currently no
options in the area to create
new landfill and the waste will
have to be transported to a
final disposal location. Thou-
sands of tonnes of garbage
will have to be routed out of

the area but the exact route
won't be decided until a waste
centre location is picked.
As of now there are two
options that a committee has
yet to decide upon. The cur-
rent landfill in Clinton could
be repurposed into a recycling
and residual waste centre. It
will use the current entrance
with a similar level of service
and a new facility that is able
to handle proposed additional
waste.
Another proposed place for
the waste centre is in
