Wednesday, October 28, 2015 • News Record 25 Let your light shine The stained glass window Barbara Hicks Special to the News Record How is being a Christian like being a pumpkin? God lifts you up, takes you in and washes all the dirt off you. He opens you up, touches you deep inside and scoops out all the yucky stuff, including the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. Then He carves you a new smil- ing face and puts His light inside you to shine for all the world to see. This was passed on to me from another pumpkin. I like this enough to send it to all the pumpkins in my patch. (Author unknown) Followers of Jesus were first called Christians because they believed in Christ and followed His example. They were ordi- nary people with human weak- nesses. eaknesses. Jesus then extended His forgiveness for those mistakes made. They didn't become perfect, they were just forgiven by Him. When they received Jesus they received the Holy Spirit's help. He then began a new life and light in them, assisting them as they continued to look to Him for guidance. Often the world would look at people, calling themselves Christians with an attitude of "Who do they think they are?" or calling them hypo- crites or worse. I can under- stand people thinking that. Just remember we all have a need for improvement and some- times God's patience extended to us. What happened on Oct. 4, a Sunday evening? Clinton, you were prayed for. Believing that: God is at work all around us. God responds to the prayers of His people. There is hope and healing in Jesus. Ministerial and others had a prayer walk in Clinton. We walked in groups, north, east, south and west around town. As leaders and Christians we are called to pray for one another, 1 Timothy 2 v 1, Philli- pians 4 v 6. Jeremiah 29:11 says, "God has a plan for you." Keep in mind that God is in charge but wach one of us are in control. So many times, we hear some- one say, "Oh, well, God's in con- trol. It must be meant to be:' This is the best part about being a Christian! God under- stands and has seen each one of our past, present and future. God does not make us puppets on a string. He gives us free will. We must do our part and then He says, "I'll be there to help:' I believe that God is not calling us to go to church, but to be His church in our commu- nity. It does say not to forsake coming together as Christians in Hebrews 10 v 25 however, we can share His love wherever we go. We have hurting and needy people all around us. We all know that. In light of what is going on in this world we all have questions and concerns. How do we let others know of God's love? Being kind and helpful to one another is a good start. Giving to others is God's heart because He first gave His son Jesus to us. Some people go around thinking God is made at us. However, it is just the opposite. He is mad about us. Two most important times in our lives are the day we were born and the day we find out why. For everyone you meet, they are often fighting battles you know nothing about. Always keep this is mind. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but through me." John 14:6. As the pumpkin story says, He put His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see. "Now come to Me, all you who are weary and heavy bur- dened and I will give you rest" Connect with Ontarians - extend your business reach! www.networkclassified.org
