Driver takes
off from police
in stolen
pickup truck
Howick and Huron East
— OPP officers are on the
lookout for a crew cab
Dodge Ram pickup truck
that was stolen from a
Glenannon Road residence
this past weekend. The
owner reported his pickup
truck was stolen from his
laneway sometime overnight
between 10 p.m. on Oct.
18 and 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 19.
The owner had left the vehi-
cle unlocked with the keys
inside the cup holder. In
addition, the owner had left
his wallet containing identi-
fication, a quantity of cash,
cheques, a GPS system,
satellite radio system and
sporting equipment inside
the truck.
At approximately 1:30 p.m.
on Oct. 19 a Huron OPP
officer spotted the stolen
truck stopped on Moles-
worth Line. As the officer
approached the stolen truck
the driver took off from the
police officer. The suspect
driver proceeded across a
lawn, through a field and
back onto Molesworth Line.
The officer lost sight of the
stolen truck north of Ethel.
The stolen pickup truck is
described as a black, 2004
Dodge Ram crew cab. The
truck is valued at approxi-
mately $8,000.

Driver refuses
to provide
roadside sample
Bluewater - A 58 -year-
old driver from Tilbury will
be making a court appear-
ance in November to face a
Refusal to Provide a Breath
Sample charge following an
incident that took place on
Oct. 15.
At about 2 a.m. a OPP officer
responded to a call for ser-
vice located at Melena Drive
in Bayfield. The investigat-
ing officer observed the male
suspect parked on the side of
Melena Drive in a Ford Van.
Upon speaking with the driver
the officer noted the male
had been consuming alco-
hol. A demand was given to
the driver to provide a sample
of his breath into the roadside
screening device. The driver
failed to provide the sample
and was taken into custody.
He was transported to the
Huron Detachment where
he was processed and later
released. The accused has
been charged with Fail to Pro-
vide Breath Sample. He has
a scheduled court appearance
and also received an auto-
matic 90 day driver's licence
suspension.
OPP officer
charged under
Highway
Traffic Act
Huron East - A member of
the Huron County OPP has
been charged following a
collision on Oct. 14.
Investigation revealed that
the officer had just com-
pleted a traffic stop when he
attempted to make a u -turn
on Brussels Line. The fully
marked police cruiser col-
lided with a southbound
vehicle, which then rolled
and came to rest on its side.
Neither driver was injured
however both vehicles sus-
tained significant damage.
As a result of the investi-
gation the constable has
been charged with "Start
from a stopped position —
not in safety", contrary to
the Highway Traffic Act. He
has served with the OPP just
over one year.
