Government, cops raid raw -milk crusader's farm
Kevin Connor
Postmedia Network
Authorities south of Owen Sound
raided the farm of a raw -milk crusader
Friday aftemoon.
Michael Schmidt of Glencolton Farms,
an unpasteurized milk co-operative in
the town of Durham, said the Ministry of
Natural Resources and West Grey police
showed up with a search warrant
"I don't know why, but they are taking
dairy equipment, computers, everything.
They are just bringing out stuff," Schmidt
said.
"I'm not going to back down"
Schmidt and his lawyer, Karen Selick,
said they hadn't had time to review the
warrant.
Schmidt has been fighting a legal bat-
tle to sell raw milk products since the
1990s.
On Tuesday, public health official
seized goods from a van that delivers
milk products to members of his farming
collective.
Health officials called it a raw milk
investigation.
West Grey police wouldn't comment
about Friday's raid.
Libraries and food banks collaborating on Foods for Fines
All 12 branches of the Huron County
Library will be participating in the pop-
ular 'Food for Fines' program from
October 11 to 17 this year.
During this week, all branch loca-
tions will accept non-perishable food
items in place of cash for overdue
library fines. This project is offered
through the Huron County Library in
partnership with the Huron County
Health Unit and local food banks. It is
timely that Food for Fines coincides
with the International Day for the Erad-
ication of Poverty on October 17. The
ten food banks in Huron assist over
1,500 people (singles, families, chil-

'Food for Fines' also gives library
users a chance to clear their record,
return overdue materials, and support
local food banks. During the program,
fines for items are waived on a one to
one ratio; it's simply one item of food
for each item overdue.
All donations through this program
are redistributed to food banks within
Huron County. For more information
