with the Clinton Kinsmen

Who knew that a "granny"
dance mash -up could be so
entertaining?
Last Saturday the Clinton
Kinsmen hosted the 19th
annual Ladies Night at the
Central Huron Community
Complex.
Almost two decades ago the
Kinsmen decided to host an
event exclusively for women
as there weren't any events
geared towards them at the
time, Curtis Meyers, event
coordinator, said.
The night consists of a
three -course meal followed by
entertainment, which can
mean anything from an inter-
pretation of Tom Cruise's
famous Risky Business scene
to dancing fire fighters.
The Kinsmen and volun-
teers do everything from serv-
ing tables to bartending and,
of course, entertaining.
This year there were 18 acts
and Meyers said they get ideas
from a variety of sources,
includingYouTube.
The Kinsmen sold 260 tick-
ets, which is down from previ-
ous years. Although this year's
numbers were lower, Meyers
said the event has increased in
popularity since its inception.
Ladies Night's inaugural
event took place at the Town
Hall but eventually got too big
and moved to the Legion. Five
years ago the Legion became
too small as the popularity of
Ladies Night increased again
and so it moved to the CHCC.
Meyers said the night is
one of the Kinsmen's biggest
fundraisers and brings in
about $8,000 each year with
all the money raised going
back into the community.
Some recent Kinsmen
donations to the community
include, $125,000 to the
arena, $40,000 for a new
Zamboni and $20,000 for
lights at the baseball
diamonds.
