The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority wants to educate the community about the importance of this valua- ble resource to the local area and economy. Melissa Prout, with the ABCA, was at St. Anne's Catholic Secondary School in Clinton on Nov. 5 to provide training to the Specialist High Skills Major students. The con- servation authority was providing free high-level training on soils and GPS. Prout said the idea was to help educate future farmers of the importance of conservation tillage or no -tillage practices to the health of the environment. She stressed to the stu- dents that soil is consid- ered a non-renewable resource because it is used at a significantly faster rate than it is developed. The year 2015 is the International Year of Soils and Prout said this is a prime opportunity to spread the word about this issue.
