Patient comments result in a uniform facelift at local hospitals French immersion survey

To benefit patients with
the recognition of who's who
in the hospital, specific col-
ours are being assigned to
help identify job titles in
health care.
The Clinton Public Hospi-
tal, in conjunction with the
other three hospitals, (Strat-
ford, St. Mary's and Seaforth)
connected to the Huron
Perth Alliance are being
affected by this change. All
are anticipated to have a
whole new look by Nov 2.
Each professional desig-
nation will include black
pants with a different colour-
coded top to categorize their
occupation. This idea has
been in formation for a few
years, explained the chief
nursing executive for the
Huron Perth Alliance, Don-
nalene Tuer-Hodes. The
decision was made as the
result of numerous com-
ments by patients.
"The patients have noti-
fied that they don't know
who the staff are, they can-
not tell a nurse from a
housekeeper or pharmacist,"
Tuer-Hodes said in a recent
phone interview Oct. 28.
"This is going to help the
patients identify who that
person is that's looking after
them."
For instance, to keep the
health care environment sim-
ple and eliminate confusion,
nurses will be attired with a
white top and black pants.
"It brings back the profes-
sional designated look.
When I graduated in the 70s,
we wore the white," Tuer-
Hodes stated.
Though many hospitals
are implementing the same
change of uniforms, Tuer-
Hodes explained that not
many are following it to the
extent or level as Huron

As of Nov. 2, Clinton Public Hospital will be one of four hospitals
in the area to introduce colour-coded uniforms to better identify
professions.
Perth. When the plan is in
effect, the antenatal clinic,
chemotherapy unit, dialysis
unit and all the four emer-
gency departments are
expected to be dressed in
their particular colours.
"I think it's going to get
really good feedback, it's just
another variable that's going
to help know who's in their
room," Tuer-Hodes said.
Some of the employees
unions will take care of the
costs. However, for those
staff members who are not
covered, the uniforms will be
available next week, to pur-
chase either online or in
Stratford.

At the last Avon Maitland
District School Board meeting
on Oct. 13 a motion was passed
that AMDSB direct staff to pre-
pare the French Immersion
Interest survey to communities
throughout the district, not
already served by French
immersion.
This survey will be con-
ducted from early November to
January 7, 2016.
"The survey will be made
available online via
AMDSB's Facebook Page and
on websites such as
AMDSB's yourschools.ca and
various local municipalities';
AMDSB board chair Randy
Wagler said.
"In addition, we will make
direct contact with families
who are registering children
to attend our board in 2016
through the Calling All Three
Year Olds (CATYO) initiative,
as well as families with chil-
dren currently in junior or
senior kindergarten through-
out our district. We will also
ensure that the survey is pro-
moted through our school
newsletters."
The survey is intended only
to determine potential interest
in French immersion. The
results will be used to further
explore possible options for
expansion.
"Of course any new program
offering would be dependent
on sufficient actual registra-
tions for such a program,
should the board decide to
expand French Immersion in
the district," Wagler said.
