Perth and Huron -one of
the best places to live -
but problems still remain
A community discussion tackles
the next steps in light of the
recent Quality of Life Report
The Social Research and Plan-
ning Council, a division of United
Way of Perth - Huron recently
released a study on the Quality of
Life - which refers to the general
wellbeing of individuals and
society in terms of health and
happiness - in Perth and Huron
County. The research found that
residents live in one of the best
places in the world, but problems
still remain. The community
event that includes breakfast, will
lead a discussion about what the
next steps might be.
Ryan Erb, Executive Director
is pleased with the registration
for the event so far, "A great cross
section of the community,
including social service leaders,
municipal staff and politicians
have indicated an interest by
registering for this event': Erb
further commented, "The Social
Research and Planning Council
has quietly become one of the
most important drivers of social
change in this community. By
providing evidence for social
action and then instigating, or
even leading that action, SRPC
and the United Way are bringing
change where it is needed most"
Topics at the discussion will
include lower educational attain-
ment rates, high out migration
rates of young adults, a lower
average annual earning for full-
time workers in the region (com-
pared to provincial average) and
an environment that falls below
provincial guidelines.
The Social Research and Plan-
ning Council is comprised of
community representatives who
are dedicated to the collection,
analysis and distribution of infor-
mation relating to social trends
and issues in Perth and Huron
County. The council hopes that
with this information, social and
human service agencies and
funders can make informed deci-
sions regarding courses of action
and implementation resources.

found at perthhuron.unitedway.

The event will take place on
Thursday, March 26th, 2015 from
8:OOam, at the Arden Park Hotel.

local communities by bringing
changes where it is needed most.
United Way acts as a funder, part-
ner, convener, advocate, incuba-
tor and researcher while servic-
ing nearly 50 supported partners.
United Way Perth -Huron
introduces new fundraiser
United Way Perth -Huron has
typically announced their
Annual Campaign achievement
this time of year (late February),
however, this year the charity
has decided to change things up
a bit and introduce a new fund-
raiser in April called "The Spirit
of Community Celebration"
where the campaign achieve-
ment will be announced along
with this years supported part-
ners. Additionally, United Way
plans to make some significant
announcements about their
future community impact work
The 2014 Campaign Co -
Chairs Chief John Bates and
Wayne Smith will be on hand to
share the results and thank the
community for their support
and the 2015 Campaign Chair
will be announced. Hinting
about the success of the cam-
paign, Chief Bates said "It has
been a privilege for me to have
served as a Co -Chair for this
year's United Way campaign':
Chief Bates emphasized,
"Thanks to incredibly generous
donors within our communities,
this year's campaign has seen
great success. Their contribu-
tions will continue to ensure
that the factors that negatively
affect our various communities'
safety and well-being are
addressed and that they remain
livable and vibrant"
Wayne Smith furthered this
sentiment saying: "The sense of
place in Perth Huron is deep and
heartfelt by the people who live
here, they care. That feeling made
it a pleasure to have Co -Chaired
this campaign". Smith also
remarked "United Way is well sit-
uated to be a catalyst for change
in the way we meet the opportu-
nities in our society and as we
crisscrossed the counties that
message was received with cour-
tesy and attention. The commu-
nity has once again reacted with
generosity and trust':
Ryan Erb, Executive Director is
excited about The Spirit of Com-
munity Celebration and
explained that "we will be cele-
brating all things United Way
Perth -Huron: the 2014 campaign
achievement, the top 15 cam-
paign accounts, our amazing
volunteers, agencies allocations
and we will be proudly announc-
ing how our United Way is plan-
ning on making a greater impact
throughout Perth and Huron
Counties moving forward".
The event will take place on
Thursday, April 30th from 6-10
pm at the Arden Park Hotel.
