letters to the editor
Reader says thank you to local young men
Dear Editor,
Back in January a friend
of mine and I were at Bar-
tliffs Bakery enjoying
lunch and a nice visit with
a third friend. When it was
time to leave two of us
went out to my car to go
home to Bayfield. How-
ever, my car would not
start. Even the steering
wheel was locked. It was
so very cold. I did not
want to have to call for
help and wait for my
pre -paid assistance. I
decided to go back in and
ask a couple of young men
(or ladies) we noticed in
the restaurant.
I humbly approached
them and told them my
dilemma.
"Sure" said the man,
"we'll see what we can
do."
In no time one of them
sat in the drivers seat and,
in a flash, the car was run-
ning. We were so very
thankful and told them so.
We offered to pay him but
he said, "no, no, we are
happy to help."
Kudos to these young
men! We should never
underestimate the power
and brains of our young-
est generation.
Thanks again guys! You
know who you are.
Sincerely,
Joyce Chilton

Huron County Council meeting
in Goderich on Monday approved
a Huron County Library budget
of $124,363. Actual cost to the
ratepayers in Huron is $53,250 after
grants and other income have been
considered. Last year's budget was
$102,499.32. This year's increase
is credited to the acquisition
of a qualified librarian and the
discontinuance of the incentive
grant available for only one year.
Library committee chairman Frank
McFadden, reeve of Bayfield, pointed
out that there is a $2,400 grant on
librarian Carolyn Croke's salary of
$9,000.
Towns and villages throughout
Huron County should open their
doors to city people and welcome
them with open arms, a land use
conference in Clinton was told last
Thursday. Dr. R. Stephen Rodd, an
assistant professor at the school
of agriculture economics at the
University of Guelph told the 150
gathered for the day -long event that
city people just wanted some peace
and quiet and the towns and villages
in Huron could provide this without
valuable farmland being eaten up by
urbanites.

Since early July a committee
consisting of doctors, operating
supervisors, a medical officer,
firemen, a police officer and a
hospital administrator have been
working on a comprehensive review
of the emergency health services
within Huron and Perth counties.
And no in the final stages of their
study they would like input from
the public sector. According to
coordinator Barbara Worthington,
the study was put in place when the
Ministry of Health listed emergency
health services as a top priority.

The Golden Radar Club members
met at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday,
March 18 for a St. Patrick's Day
celebration. Elmer Trick played the
piano as the members arrived and
Ida Godkin welcomed all to the
program and gave a brief talk on
why the day is celebrated. In Ireland
the day is celebrated as a religious
holiday, as St. Patrick is credited
for bringing Christianity to Ireland.
Mary Dale gave an amusing reading
on "Turning 65" and Ida read a few
jokes. Sheehan and Dan Carter then
entertained with a few selections on
the violin and viola and included an
Irish ballard entitled "Danny Boy."

Kathy Bromley and Julie Plunkett
share a common bond and that
bond is epilepsy. March is Epilepsy
Month and the two McConnell
Street neighbours in Blyth sat down
last week to share their experience
in battling and overcoming the
debilitating disease. Long-time
readers of the Clinton News Record
are sure to remember Bromley's
story as she wrote numerous items
for the paper 15 years ago, both
before and after undergoing brain
surgery to help bring her epilepsy in
line.
