Gallery invites artists in all
media to exhibit in April
As Helen Keller said, "Life is
either a daring adventure or it is
nothing!"
The Goderich Co-op Gallery
would like to invite area artists in
any medium to exhibit their origi-
nal work at the gallery during the
month of April during the Gal-
lery's annual Exposure show. The
art may be for sale or not, as the
creator wishes. An entry fee of
$15 is charged for the first piece
and $10 for each additional work
to a total of 5 pieces. To ensure
that all artists have an opportunity
to display their work, the number
of extra large pieces may be lim-
ited. All wall art must be securely
wired and ready for hanging [no
brackets please].
Entry forms may be accessed
on our website [www.gcgallery.
ca] or you can pick one up at the
gallery during winter's open
hours [10-4, Wednesday to Sat-
urday] March 18-28. The official
opening reception will be Sat.
April 4th from 2-4 p.m. The com-
munity is invited to this open-
ing, to share the excitement.
This art may be viewed all dur-
ing the month of April.
"Whether you have been creat-
ing for 30 years or just six months,
your work will have its own dis-
tinctive character," declared
Madeleine Roske one of the gal-
lery's founding members. "We are
always eager to see the work of
artists of all levels of ability."
For the month of March, The
Seasons of the Maitland Valley
Trail Association continues to
be popular with gallery visitors.
Exhibiting year round is a
group of talented, prize -winning
area photographers with many
different styles of creativity. Three
members who exhibit in this cat-
egory are Marianne Novotna,
Tom Barker, and Jerry McDon-
nell. Prize winning artists and

one of the above is always on duty

Nominations open
for annual Huron
Cultural Awards
Do you know of a group or an indi-
vidual who has made an outstanding
contribution to arts, culture or heritage
in Huron County during 2014? It's once
again time to recognize them. The
Huron Arts & Heritage Network
(HAHN), in partnership with Cultural
Services of the County of Huron, is
accepting nominations for its sixth
annual Cultural Awards celebration.
The awards recognize the exceptional
achievements of Huron County resi-
dents, businesses, and organizations in
the following categories: Individual Art-
ist, Community Event or Organization,
Youth Award, Heritage Individual or
Organization and Community Contri-
bution of a Volunteer or Patron.
"This is an opportunity to celebrate
those who make significant contribu-
tions to the arts and heritage sector of
Huron," says Deb Sholdice, HAHN
Chairperson. "We encourage everyone
to submit a nomination for their
favourite artist, musician, arts project
or organization, heritage event or
group, volunteer, or supporter, essen-
tially all of the people who make the
arts, culture and heritage sector of
Huron County so great"
Nomination submissions require a
nomination form and a short descrip-
tion (maximum of one page) explaining
what the nominee accomplished in
2014 in their category and why you
think it is worthy of recognition.
Nomination forms and award criteria
are available online at creativehuron.ca
or by following the link on the Huron
Arts & Heritage Network Facebook
page. Printed copies are also available
at any Huron County Library branch
during regular branch hours. Nomina-
tions will be accepted until end of day
on April 3, 2015.
Finalists and winners in each cate-
gory will be selected by a jury from the
eligible nominations received. In keep-
ing with previous years, winners in
each category will be presented with an
original work of art created by a local
artist. This year's awards will be created
by Susan Hay, a visual artist located in
Benmiller and last year's recipient of
the Individual Artist Award.
The Cultural Awards Gala is Friday,
May 1st at the White Carnation Ban-
quet Hall in Holmesville. As well as rec-
ognizing the finalists and winners, this
special evening also features entertain-
ment by a variety of Huron County art-
ists. There is also a silent auction of
unique items at the Awards Gala sup-
porting the activities of Huron Arts &
Heritage Network. The event starts with
a cocktail social at 5:30 PM followed by
a buffet dinner at 6:30 PM and the
awards presentations at 7:30 PM. Tick-
ets are $25.00 each and can be pur-
chased through the Blyth Festival box
office at 519-523- 9300 or toll free at
1-877-862-5984.
