Family establishes fund to support local couple after house fire
Tara Ostner
The Clinton News Record
This is not an easy time for
Norm Hulley and Melyni Laidlaw,
two residents of Clinton.
On February 24 the home of
the engaged couple, located on
Rattenbury Street East in Clinton,
set ablaze. The couple and their
neighbour noticed the fire that
evening and the couple vacated
the residence immediately. At
7:40 p.m. emergency crews
arrived at the scene and a section
of the street was closed until the
crews were able to control the
blaze. The exact cause of the fire
remains unknown.
Hulley and Laidlaw were
treated at the hospital for smoke
inhalation and released shortly
thereafter. Having said that, it will
take considerable time for them
to recover from the traumatic
experience.
The couple lost three cats and
two birds in the fire and all of their
possessions including sentimen-
tal and irreplaceable items. Even
though Hulley has house insur-
ance, the insurance will not cover
everything.
Fortunately, family members
are looking out for the couple and
one day after the fire Hulley's
niece, Lauren Lecomte, estab-
lished a fund to help raise money
for them.
As Lecomte explains, "we are
asking for donations to help get
them on their feet:'
The fund, entitled "Norm's
House Fire Fund," can be viewed
at www.gofundme.com/

If people would prefer to
donate directly via email transfer
they can also email their donation
to Iecomte06@hotmail.com
All proceeds from the fund will
be given directly to Hulley.
As Hulley states, "I would like
to thank the CH and Seaforth
fire department for all they have
done for us. Thank you for keep-
ing the fire contained to our
property. You guys did a won-
derful job of saving the other
houses around ours. Thank you
all."
