Even from the sidelines the
intensity of the game can be felt
Alongside the sometimes
cringe -worthy sport there is an
obvious passion for a game
with a relatively new following.
St. Anne's girls rugby team
made it to the OFSAA champi-
onships this year in Brampton
from June 1-3 for the eighth
time in a row. The team lost its
first game against Barrie Cen-
tral by 26 points but came back
to win against Jean Vanier for an
end score of 19-10. The girls lost
the next two games against
Ashbury and Quinte.
For coach Ryan Clancy it
wasn't about winning every
game. The team didn't bring
home a medal but the girls
played phenomenally, he
said.
There was such a high
caliber of rugby at this year's
OFSAA tournament, Clancy
said. The girls kept up and
played with the best teams
and that's how the team
should be measured.
St. Anne's has won an
antique bronze and bronze
medal at OFSAA before but
Clancy said it's hard to com-
pare the team from year to
year.
The team is reallyyoung and
will loose only two players. For
nextyear, Clancy plans to build
and develop what the girls
already do but stresses that
maintaining this level of rugby
is the most important thing.
