Huge crowds for the 161st Clinton Spring Fair
Current fair ambassador Lucas Dupee in the Clinton Spring Fair
parade last Saturday. Dupee said that being a male ambassador
has not affected his ability to carry out his duties representing
the Huron Central Agricultural Society.

Jake, Gert, Emily and Mark Datema were captivated by
the demolition derby.
The demolition derby always brings a big crowd to the Clinton Spring Fair.
Round one was only the start of the much -anticipated event. Firefighters
were standing by at all times to help should anything go wrong.
Cooper McCulloch, 10, narrowly beats his brother Lucas, 8, racing
down the slide at the Clinton Spring Fair last Friday.
The midway at the Clinton Spring Fair boasts not just rides but
carnival games as well. Spencer tenHag, 8, takes his best shot at
the fish toss.

Clinton Horticultural
Society celebrates
125th anniversary

A shared love of preserv-
ing the natural environment
has led to 125 -year
commitment.
The Clinton Horticultural
Society has been a part of the
community since 1890. The
organization keeps the town
connected through a coordi-
nated effort of gardening,
plantings, events and
projects.
Planting projects the Hor-
ticultural Society has taken
on in Clinton include: the
garden at the Radar Anten-
nae, gardens at the entrance
to the cemetery mausoleum,
planter at the Huron Board
of Education building, the
beds around the entrance to
the Clinton Public Hospital,
geraniums at the public
school and hanging baskets
along the main streets.
Some of the notable
events of the Horticultural
Society's history are:
1890 - Founding of the
Clinton Horticultural
Society.
1971 - A red maple was
planted at Clinton Cemetery
Mausoleum in honour of
former District 8 director,
Clifford Epps.
1973 - Service Award
given to 30 -year member
Viola Nelson, presented by
president Florence Pullen.
1975 - Clinton centennial
celebration included land-
scaping the flowerbed under
Radar screen in triangle.
1990 - One hundred year
anniversary picnic at Slo-
man Park.
1991 - Name changed to
Clinton Garden Club.
2000 - Planted tulip tree
in Kinsmen Park.
2002 - Named changed
back to Clinton Horticultural
Society.
2005 - Donated granite
bench to Clinton garden
beside Wesley Willis Chruch
(now Heartland Community
Church).
2007 - Changed drawing
on the cover design of year-
book to Ken Magee's draw-
ing of the Clintonia Borealis.
2015 - Hosted District 8
annual general meeting cel-
ebrating the 125th
anniversary.
The Clinton Horticultural
Society is celebrating the
125th anniversary on June
17. A potluck picnic supper
will happen at 5:45 p.m. in
Sloman School car park. It
will be followed at 7 p.m. by
a granite bench dedication
and tree planting at the Clin-
ton Cemetery.
