Round one was only the start of the much -anticipated event. Firefighters were standing by at all times to help should anything go wrong. Please call for details 524-7711 Clinton Horticultural Society celebrates 125th anniversary Laura Broadley Clinton News Record A shared love of preserv- ing the natural environment has led to 125 -year commitment. The Clinton Horticultural Society has been a part of the community since 1890. The organization keeps the town connected through a coordi- nated effort of gardening, plantings, events and projects. Planting projects the Hor- ticultural Society has taken on in Clinton include: the garden at the Radar Anten- nae, gardens at the entrance to the cemetery mausoleum, planter at the Huron Board of Education building, the beds around the entrance to the Clinton Public Hospital, geraniums at the public school and hanging baskets along the main streets. Some of the notable events of the Horticultural Society's history are: 1890 - Founding of the Clinton Horticultural Society. 1971 - A red maple was planted at Clinton Cemetery Mausoleum in honour of former District 8 director, Clifford Epps. 1973 - Service Award given to 30 -year member Viola Nelson, presented by president Florence Pullen. 1975 - Clinton centennial celebration included land- scaping the flowerbed under Radar screen in triangle. 1990 - One hundred year anniversary picnic at Slo- man Park. 1991 - Name changed to Clinton Garden Club. 2000 - Planted tulip tree in Kinsmen Park. 2002 - Named changed back to Clinton Horticultural Society. 2005 - Donated granite bench to Clinton garden beside Wesley Willis Chruch (now Heartland Community Church). 2007 - Changed drawing on the cover design of year- book to Ken Magee's draw- ing of the Clintonia Borealis. 2015 - Hosted District 8 annual general meeting cel- ebrating the 125th anniversary. The Clinton Horticultural Society is celebrating the 125th anniversary on June 17. A potluck picnic supper will happen at 5:45 p.m. in Sloman School car park.
