There was a huge turnout for
the 161st Clinton Spring Fair
last weekend. The opening cer-
emonies on June 5 kicked off
the popular demolition derby.
Combining traditional
attractions with new brought
out another dedicated crowd
from all over the region.
The opening ceremonies
were moved to Friday
because the fair ambassador
competition was cancelled
for lack of contestants.
Current fair ambassador
Lucas Dupee looks fondly
back on his year as Huron
Central Agricultural Society
representative.
Dupee knows that his role
will come to an end when
the next ambassador com-
petition is held and he
encourages people to put
themselves forward.
Being the face of the fair
and public speaking can
seem intimidating at first but
it's worth it, Dupee said.
"It's a great opportunity
for anybody," he said.
There is nothing gender -
specific and Dupee has never
felt uncomfortable with any-
thing he's been asked to do.
Being a male has never
affected or hindered him in
anyway in his role as ambas-
sador, he explained.
Over the past year Dupee
has participated in parades,
competed at the Canadian
National Exhibition and the
District 8 ambassador com-
petition last month.
Judging the teddy bear
parade was a highlight for him
but Dupee said that he has
gained a great appreciation for
the role that agriculture plays in
rural and urban centres.
