Hosted once again by the Bayfield Lions starting from Clan Gregor Square at 9 a.m. Every year we are all given an opportunity to be a part of helping to change the lives of many people across Canada by being a participant in this important event. Lions Foundation of Canada's mission is to assist Cana- dians with a medical or physical disability by pro- viding them dog guides at no personal costs. It can cost upwards of $20,000 to train a pup to become a service dog. "This is the 30th anni- versary of the walk and the Bayfield Lions have been there from the beginning. On a per cap- ita basis our community walk has been one of the most financially success- ful in Canada," said Bay- field Lion Jack Pal, chair of the annual Dog Guide Walk "This year, however, we are really ramping up our activities and making it an exciting dog day to which everyone is invited. We are going to make it our most successful Walk for Dog Guides ever!" Pal continued. The morning will start off, after registration in Clan Gregor Square at 8:30 a.m. with an approxi- mately 5 kilometre gentle walk along a major part of the Heritage Trail in downtown Bayfield start- ing at 9 a.m. This is where the similarity with past years ends. After the walk, all the participants and the gen- eral public are invited back to Clan Gregor to be part of the Lions Dog Day Gala. Keynote speaker is Larry Wainwright, a sen- ior Lion and former member of the Bayfield Lions. Larry, who is blind, will bring with him his canine vision dog guide and talk about the history of the program and his own experience with it "We will also have just about everything else you can imagine that involves dogs, to keep this excit- ing." said Pal. "There will be repre- sentation from the Lon- don Police 1(9 unit, the St. John's Ambulance ther- apy dog program and the OSPCA rescue dog pro- gram. In addition there will be a presentation on the importance of dog grooming and a dog agil- ity demonstration. A well known local veterinarian will talk about various aspects of dog health. All this will be accompanied by musical entertainment and the whole event will be emceed by a well- known local personality. In other words something for everyone and it's all free:' Refreshments will also be available.
