The new heating yetem at the Town
Hall is now 'in wor Ing order. One of
the old wood furna es has been torn out
and one of the larg t "Red Hot Huron"
furnaces, manufao red by the Western
Foundry Co. has 'eaten put in its place.
The new furnace will heat the Council
Chamber, Clerk's office, Public Library,
and Firemen's r. 3m, and with the aid
of the remaining vood furnace will heat
the opera house. This change was a
wise one and w 1 do away with three
stoves and mea • a great saving in fuel.

last week. The financial repot present-
ed showed that the society bad a very
successful year. The total receipts were
$1242.19, and eapenditure of $1102.69.
Last year $568.3 was paid out in prizes,
compared with 442,25the previous year.

ed in duet by Miss Ed Isbister, sister
of the bride, and Miss Imrie of West-
mont, Quebec. The b de was gowned
in cream silk oolienne over cream taf-

D, Perrie, of St. Andre 's Presbyterian
Church, Wingham, p formed the cere-

was educated and when a young man

Township of Ashfield. Early in the
sixties he entered the general store of
the late Malcolm Jampbell at Lucknow

promoted to the ensition of manager for
Mr. Campbell in . is store in Wingham
(in what is now nown as Lower Wing -
ham). Hero he maned for some two
years, et hen in 1 69 he opened a general
store in Upper Wingham on his own ac-
count in the at• 're at the corner of
Victoria and 3 tsephine street. This
business he conti iced for a few years
when he was apaeinted Division Court
Clerk and a few months later a local
agent for tho American and Canadian
Express Compan es. In these positions
he gave the very neat of satisfaction and
was highly respelled by a large circle of
friends. Owing 0 failing health he re-
signed those posi ions and has since been
living retired, ter. McGuire could tell
many an interest :ng story of the early
history of Wing am and the writer has
on more than one occasion received'
much information from him in regard
to the events of ! the earlyy days. Ile is
survived by his widow and two sons,
Mr, J. E. Mcw'aire of the Bank of
Hamilton and Mr. F. W. McGuire, of
Winnipeg. Thr funeral will take place

Mr, Peter Porterfie d, the subject of
this notice, left his h me in Banffshire,
Scotland, in April, 1 li, for Canada, and
after working for sone time in Scarboro

oldest postmasters .n the County ; and
