Clinton News Record, 2015-07-15, Page 1818 News Record • Wednesday, July 15, 2015 Villagers take advantage of E -waste program Brenda Radford Special to the News School's out and I'm hearing reports of chil- dren enjoying a variety of sports, heading off to vacation Bible school and camping experiences and soaking up the sun around backyard pools now that the heat is finally here. Let's be aware of their presence on village streets as they do what children should do, enjoy being young and active. The village has a new resident we will be looking out for in years ahead. Andrew Gerald Neeb will always be having a party on Canada's birthday. Only he'll call it his birth- day. Welcome to Andrew and congratulations to parents Michael and Andrea. Thirty years ago who would have thought gar- bage would be such a big issue? Municipalities have struggles with landfill sites for years now and various tactics have been tried to satisfy govern- ment recommendations and taxpayers. We all want the best of these services but with no rise in taxes or inconvenience. Recycling seems to be working to some degree but folks need to be vigilant about the various ways to get rid of items not considered regular household garbage. A few weeks back there was an E -Waste recycling in the village that was well used. And one Saturday since then Townsend Tire accepted used tires at their location as part of a government initiative to keep these tires out of the ditches and bushes in rural areas. Our business took advantage of this recycling. Otherwise the disposal of any tire at a landfill site is costly. Hell South Africa! As I sit here in the airport waiting to board the plane for my fifth trip to South Africa, it occurs tome that I have told you about the people, the food, the poli- tics but I have not told you about all the wonderful things to see and do there as a visitor. So, for my final install- ment I thought you might enjoy hearing about some of the sights to see and things to do if you visit this amazing country. Cape Town is the abso- lute jewel of South Africa. An amazingly cosmopoli- tan city, it is clean and offers some of the best res- taurants in the world along with world-class theatre and entertainment. This was the original Dutch colony in South Africa as is evidenced by the plethora of Dutch colo- nial architecture found in OFFICE 519-482-3400"'"'''''' 1 Albert Street, Clinton www.rlpheartland.ca Illllllllllllllrllr I TOO '11177'w-3— ED ' ' Helping you is what we do.TM To view all our listings go to: www.rlpheartland.ca fi I •LI org + 4 ° ! r I I t , , I r - w -fir :..-1e NEW LISTING NEW LISTING EMI 3 ACRES' 19 Margaret St., MorrisTurnberry $279,900 Call Sherry MLS#283384 65 Albert St., Dungannon $147,000 Call Sherry MLS#625583 40740 Huron Rd., Central Huron $249,900 Call Rick or Fred MLS#419174 a i i I i igi . - , ' _ i IDEAL FAMILY HOME ..., .}r .r CENTURY HOME ■1 HOUSE ON 3 LOTS 21 Victoria St., Mitchell $159,900 Call Sherry MLS#235221 286 Dinsley St., Blyth $249,900 Call Rick or Fred MLS#397347 298 Drummond St., Blyth $99,900 Call Rick or Fred MLS#718026 _ r r• ' BUILDING LOTS ., '`- t `: tf _ — . ■s$49,900 s Lot 840 Mary St., Clinton Call Rick or Fred MLS#228233 CHARMING GREAT STARTERm. The Victoria and Albert Waterfront is an amazing mixture of outdoor market, tourist attraction, cultural and entertainment centre and the city is rich with cul- tural and historical landmarks. High on the list of must do's is the Robben Island tour. A short boat ride takes you to this very small island, which was originally used as a leper colony but was later converted to a prison. It is here in a cell approx- imately four inches by six inches that Nelson Man- dela was imprisoned for much of his 27 year sentence. The tours are conducted by ex -inmates (most of them political prisoners), which adds a whole other dimension of realism to it. Seeing the lime pits where Mandela toiled day in and day out without any kind of equipment to protect against the corrosive lime, makes the fact that he lived to the age of 94 a testament to the strength and forti- tude of the man. In this area of South Africa there is a complete floral kingdom known as the "Cape Floral Kingdom". The world is made up of only six floral kingdoms and this tiny one at the southern tip of Africa is by far the smallest but it is extremely diverse and con- tains all of the world's Fyn- bos vegetation. It is here in Cape Town that you will find the spec- tacular Kirstenbosch Gar- dens. This botanical garden displays amazing examples of sub-Saharan vegetation and is immaculately main- tained. Absolutely beautiful. Its new "Boomslang" sky - walk (named for a type of snake) is an absolute must do! This human catwalk through the treetops is shaped like a serpent and moves and sways to give an absolutely unique experi- ence. Perfectly camou- flaged in the treetops it is a marvel of both art and architecture. Before you leave the Cape Town area, you will want to do the cable car ride up to the top of Table Mountain. This distinctive, flat-topped mountain is South Africa's most famous t• PUBLIC MEETING Regarding Building By-law No. 91-2013 TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Bluewater will hold a public meeting on the 10th day of August, 2015, at 7:00 p.m., in the Council chambers (38594B Mill Road, Varna) in order to consider amendments to a Building By-law under Section 7.(1) of the Building Code Act. It is very unique. Not particularly high but dis- tinctive in shape, a cable car will take you to the top (or you can hike up if you are so inclined) where you can enjoy a meal or a hike while taking in panoramic views of the city and sur- rounding countryside. Well, at least on a clear day you can. Table Moun- tain is famous for its unique fog, which often shrouds the top of the mountain. It is really spec- tacular to see it. It is extremely thick and it appear to blanket the flat top of the mountain and roll off of it in great bil- lows. It is appropriately known as the "table cloth': A tour of the many fan- tastic wineries in the area proves a relaxing prelude to the beautiful drive down to the Cape of Good Hope, which has some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the world. This southern tip (although not the most southerly) of Africa is notorious for shipwrecks and is an absolute divers paradise, despite the great white sharks. Oh yes. For the nature lover in you it is along the Garden Route and the southern coast that you will see penguin colonies up close and per- sonal and see whale migrations off the coast.
