The third annual mayor's mingle took place at the Central Huron Community Complex in an effort to make council available for the community. Mayor Jim Ginn took the opportunity to thank volun- teers because of the valuable work they do. Council can't supply everything the com- munity desires and so volun- teers often take on much of that extra work, he said. Ginn said the idea to hold a mayor's mingle stemmed from a notable communica- tion problem within Central Huron. A council meeting is a more formal setting and people often feel intimidated to speak up, said Ginn. The mayor stressed the idea that council members were elected as peers and they are all accessible should anyone have some- thing they want to talk about. Police respond to residential alarm A 46 -year-old male from Clinton remains in custody after he was arrested earlier this week for drug and weapons charges. Just before 10:30 a.m. on July 6, 2015 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to an alarm activation at a residence located on Queen Street in Clin- ton. Upon arriving at the resi- dence officers located a male tallcing on the phone. Upon fur- ther investigation the investigat- ing officer determined the male was the owner's son however he did not have permission to be inside the residence at that time. The investigating officer also observed the male to be carry- ing a backpack with a large knife sheath in plain view. The male was placed under investi- gative detention and a search for weapons was conducted. Upon searching the male the officer located a quantity of methamphetamine on the male. He was then placed under arrest and a thorough search of the male and his backpack was conducted. The search resulted in the officer seizing a BB gun pistol and a homemade whip -baton that is classified as a nunchaku under the Criminal Code. Wednesday, July 15, 2015 • News Record 3 Race fans lucked out this Sunday at Clinton Raceway as another beautiful sunny afternoon made for a great live race card. 10 races went postward at 1:30pm with a $38 winner kicking off the day, Junior Jet, co -owned by Catherine and George McClure, and trained by George, driven to victory by Lorne House. Race four saw Divine Hester, owned and trained by Pat Bissett of Goderich cinch a gate to wire wine for driver Travis Henry. Clinton Minor Baseball was track side with a fundraiser for their new diamond lights. They were able to raise just over $7000 with the help of race fans. Live harness racing resumes this Sunday July 19 with an annual event, Horsin' Around for Childhood Cancer. A fundraiser for Chilcan, an organization that helps families cope with the diagnosis, treatment and bereavement of childhood cancer.
