The area was host to two judges from the Communities in Bloom organization from July 6 to 8. The Communities in Bloom program sees a volunteer jury of trained professional evalu- ate the entire community; municipal, private, corporate and institutional sectors, as well as the citizens. Eight criteria are considered during judging; tidiness, envi- ronmental action, heritage con- servation, urban forestry, land- scape, turf & groundcovers, floral displays and community involvement. The judges award a bloom rating between one and five, which will be announced at a provincial awards ceremony in the fall. The judges visited all over Central Huron last week. Barnim filed an application with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice at the beginning of June. In the application he accuses Smith of having violated the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act. The application alleges that a conflict of interest arose in rela- tion to Smith's interactions with Windmill Lake Wake & Eco Park and her duties as councillor. None of the allegations have been proven in court. "Ms. Smith denies any conflict of interest and has throughout maintained her obligations to the council and the community" said Smith's lawyer, Quern Ross. Lawyers for Barnim said they weren't able to make a comment as it was too early in the proceedings. A court date has been set for July 22 at 10 a.m. at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Goderich. ATTENTION ADVERTISERS!
