The project was publically unveiled late last month. Cool down at the Hensall splash pad this summer Dave Flaherty Postmedia Network When a community works together, the sky is the limit. The small village of Hensall proved that to be true with the public unveiling of the splash pad on Thursday, June 25. Ryan Munn, secretary with the Hensall Kinsmen Club and co-chair of the splash pad com- mittee, said the second phase of the splash pad was completed earlier last month. The total cost of the project was $165,000. Of that, $25,000 was contrib- uted by the Kinsmen and Kin- nette clubs of Hensall, $55,000 from an Ontario Trillium Foun- dation (OTF) grant and $5,000 through a donation from Libro Credit Union. The rest came from local businesses and residents. "We are very happy as a club to see the community get behind us," Munn said. Munn said the Kinnette Club played a large role in helping the project be completed with a balanced budget. He also praised the staff and council of the Municipality of Bluewater for their assistance. The idea for a splash pad in Hensall began with a meeting in the fall of 2012. Fundraising efforts began in August 2013 and the first phase of the project was completed in July 2014. The public unveiling included a BBQ and there were many local children enjoying the splash pad. "It improves the park for kids and parents. It's really nice to see kids playing together out- side and not in front of a com- puter;' Munn said. The project also helped the Kinsmen Club attract three new members. The splash pad is located beside the Hensall Community Centre.
