After all, by the time you read this column it will be mid- January. Being shut in by the winter snow machine of last week means almost a lost week unless you were productive with chores indoors. Rev. Fletcher posed an interesting question to the children present at Londes- borough United Church on Christmas, "What if it was your birthday and a great party was had but you weren't invited?" He reminded the children that Jesus' birthday is coming and all of us are celebrat- ing. We mustn't forget to acknowledge Christ's birth- day and invite Him to our party. The gift of LOVE was born that first Christmas. Christianity is the largest religion in the world. Just consider how many per- sons celebrated Christ's birthday! Rev. Fletcher lead a meaningful service of familiar readings and car- ols for the well attended Christmas Eve service on December 24th. Flowers on the communion table were placed in memory of Tom Duizer by his family. As usual music was an integral part of the evening. Barb Bosman and Marsha Szusz offered organ and piano accompaniment for the singing of carols. Churchgoers also enjoyed their duets during the receiving of the offering and as service postludes. Laurel Mitchell sang a lovely solo, "Breath of Heaven" also known as "Mary's Song": The senior choir as a whole sang a "Hushing Carol": The ladies of the choir offered "Child of Love" and the men sang "March of the Three Kings": Flowers on the Memorial Stand on Sunday, January 11th were placed by the family of Audrey Mitchell who passed away on January 4th after a battle with cancer. Please keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve. Audrey was a former resident of Londesborough. Churchgoers that Sunday morning were treated to a solo by Barb Bosman who sang "If I Can Help Some- one': Early in the new year as people think about reso- lutions this song delivered an appropriate message. The children who gath- ered at the front for their time with Terry Fletcher talked about snow. After a week of flurries there appears to be heaps of snow around. Those piles are made up of single tiny snowflakes which under a microscope are seen to be made up of individual crystals. After several guesses as to how many drops/molecules of water make up each unique single snowflake Terry revealed that there are 10 quintillion crystals in each flake, making each one dif- ferent from all others. All children seem alike in form also but all are differ- ent having special gifts and abilities. And God has made us that way and He knows all about each of us and cares for us. It would seem reasona- ble that the family of Joseph, Mary and Jesus would appreciate some quiet together time fol- lowing the events around the birth of the Christ child. However, Joseph learned from an angel in a dream about the terrible decree of Herod. Immedi- ately the family made the 600 km trek to safety in Egypt. What a difficult trip that must have been with a two year old and the fear of soldiers always in their minds. It seems they must just have settled in Egypt when two years later Joseph learned din a dream again that the family should now return to their homeland. The family settled in Nazareth. But what a story of endurance and strength to be found in Matthew Contributed photo At its January 15 club meeting the Londesboro Lions Club inducted its newest member, Lion Bert Vandendool. Bert (centre) is pictured with his sponsor Lion Carl Nesbitt and is congratulated by Zone 8 chairman, Lion Ralph Deweerd. 2:13-23. It is a story of who persons listened to and obeyed the bidding of God. The coziness of the stable was replaced by the travels. It is a hard spiritual truth that the coming of the Light/Christ was met with hardship. The good news is that God will provide for us when we fulfill His purpose for us. In all difficult times God stands with us. The responsive psalm that morning was Psalm 27. The Londesborough UCW held their first SAVEA TREE! Please Recycle Your Paper! meeting of the new year on Monday, January 19th. Fel- lowship began at 7:30 p.m. The official board will meet on January 21st beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Wednesday morning Coffee and Conversation has resumed again. Every- one in the community is invited to come out to the church basement begin- ning at 9:30 a.m. Anyone desiring to take confirmation classes in April and May needs to speak to Rev. Fletcher soon. •G ODE RICH LIONS ..I ARENA BINGO - WILL RETURN MARCH 4, 2015 TV BINGO Monday 7 pm Eastlink Channel 10 Hurontel Channel 1 TCC Channel 48 LIC. #M717413 G°CDERICI- 519 524 7811 FOR MOVIE INFORMATION... :• v wynw.movielinksza d '1 -80Q -26S 1
