The letter thanked the municipal- ity for approving a $1,000 grant to support the organi- zation's Kinderoo program. Kinderoo is a school - readiness program for chil- dren ages 3 and 4 who are entering either Junior or Senior Kindergaten. It is a six-week, pre -Kindergarten program that is provided by trained staff from the Avon Maitland District School Board and Huron Perth Catholic School Board. Morning and after- noon classes include learn- ing activities, structured play, cooperative strate- gies, arts and crafts and nutritious snacks. In 2014 the Kinderoo pro- gram took place in eight classrooms in four Huron County communities and serviced 101 children. The grant from the Munic- ipality of Central Huron was used to support the Kin- deroo programming and, in particular, the purchase of safe and educational craft supplies similar to those used in Kindergarten class- rooms as well as fresh, nutri- tious snacks which were pur- chased locally. As the financial literacy program coordinator at RRHC, Pam Hanington, states, "we thank you for your support of this inval- uable program. This investment in a positive, early educational experi- ence contributes to long- term school success, the well-being of communities and demonstrates that children are really our most valuable asset." Rural Response for Healthy Children is located at 52 Huron Street in Clinton and can be reached by phoning 1-800-479-0716 or emailing mail@rncc.on.ca. In the letter CHSS thanks the municipality for its $4,000 donation to the school's annual Challenge Day. Challenge Day at CHSS is an event that aims to break down the barriers students can impose on each other allowing them to see each other as equals. It also encourages them to make changes in their school and community. The special day was held back in November and was attended by the majority of the school's grade 10 students. As the school's Challenge Day committee states, "Challenge Day is a defin- ing moment in the lives of our students. It has in the past been described as an event that "changed my life" or "saved me." We know from years of hosting Challenge Day that it pro- vides great meaning for our youth, especially for those who are struggling." The donation from the municipality was used to cover the cost of the program and rent the REACH Centre in Clinton for two days. The Challenge Day com- mittee states that the gener- ous donation helps students see "that they are valued, that people care and that they too can be the change they wish to see in the world."
