The game of pickleball is fun and easy to play with a variety of play options avail- able for everyone from beginning to advanced skill levels. The club is open to pickleball players ages high school to seniors. Beginner instruction is provided. No equipment is required as the club has paddles for use. Winter footwear must be removed and non -marking indoor shoes are to be worn in the gym at all times. First night is free after that pay as you play membership is $5.00 per night. "We are so addicted to pickleball, we had to find a place to play in the winter" said David Townsend coor- dinator of the Central Huron Pickleball Club. Many of the members started playing at Bayfield arena in the sum- mer and in the fall the courts were covered with ice for hockey and skating. Townsend says, "A few of us decided to find a place and start our own club so we could play this winter': This led them to securing Tues- day evenings at CHSS, pur- chasing equipment and building membership. The club started playing in November with 10 to 12 members playing per night. Games normally last 10 - 15 minutes and with four play- ers per court and four courts available there is lots of room for new members. Often you will get eight plus games in a night and teams change every game. When asked why he plays picldeball Townsend replied "Pickleball is fun, friendly competition, good fellow- ship, great exercise and did I mention how fun itis:" Pickleball is played on a badminton -sized court across a net placed low to the ground similar to tennis. A whiffle ball is hit with a paddle that resembles an oversized table- tennis pad- dle across the net. The sport is simple to learn, and begin- ners are often playing with club members after a quick lesson. Pickleball appeals to David Townsend, coordinator of the Central Huron Pickleball Club.
