The Islamic State does things so severe and backwards that noth- ingwe could make up about them could be as bad as reality. The video they released showing the burning alive of a Jor- danian pilot shows justhowlowtheywill go. They're nothing short of savages. But unapologetic ones. Technically savvy ones. Ones who proudly showcase their savagery to the world. Even brag about it as away of getting recruits. It's despicable and it must be stopped. Here's another little diatribe that they've just put out to show how serious they are about their depraved ways: a new guide- book on howwomen should live under the Islamic State. It's designed to attractnewrecruits. Yikes. Goodluckwith that! The interesting part though is that its writ- ten bywomen for women- created by the Al-Khanssaa Bri- gade. That's the all - female militia brigade of the caliphate. Some tough gals. And they have some scary and rough views of the world. Their booklet makes it clear that "the ideal Islamic community should refrain from becom- ing caught up in exploring [science,] the depths of matter, trying to uncover the secrets of nature and reaching the peaks of architectural sophistication:' In other words, ladies, don't expect to have an intellectually fulfilling career if you become an ISIS recruit In fact when it comes to a woman's options, there is "no responsibility greater for her thanthat of being a wife to her husband:' In a section railing against the West, they swipe out at our embrace of women's rights. "The model preferred byinfidels in the West failed the minute that women were `liberated' from their cell in the house:' They outline the three cases when women may leave the house- and the first is towage violent jihad! Apparentlypedo- philia is a cherished goal in the caliphate: "Itis considered legiti- mate for a girl to be married at the age of nine. Most pure girls will be married by 16 or 17, while they are still young and active.' It boggles the mind. Human society advances andyetwe find ourselves at war with a group like this! www.clintonnewsrecord.com column Queen's professor should be fired Tara Ostner The Clinton News Record ueen's Univer- sity is a first- rate sZirool. As a former Queen's graduate stu- dent, I feel especially loyal to it. It is one of Canada's oldest degree - granting institutions, conducts leading-edge research and, above all else, promotes and strives for academic excellence. Because it is such a superior school I believe that Melody Torcolacci, an adjunct professor at the univer- sity, should be fired without pay. Up until recently Tor- colacci taught a kinesi- ology and health stud- ies course in which she taught and promoted anti -vaccination views. Consequently, she taught unsubstantiated claims, nonfactual information and even cited a disproven study linking autism to vaccines. The one and only sav- ing grace to this unbe- lievable story is that, fortunately, the student body at Queen's Uni- versity is comprised of critical thinkers and sophisticated minds and, therefore, students in her class refused to tolerate her pseudosci- ence teaching. In order to expose her illegitimate teachings, these students took to social media and expressed their concern. "The knowledge por- trayed in the slide show for this course in no way meets the scholarly objectives set forth by the university," said Colin Zarzour, the aca- demic affairs commis- sioner for the universi- ty's Alma Mater Society. "Students and profes- sors from Queen's and elsewhere are deeply, deeply concerned by the fact it's being taught in a university - level course and specif- ically that students are being graded on this," he said. Shortly after this, Tor- colacci, unsurprisingly, took a leave of absence for the remainder of the academic year. However, what hap- pens in those situations when someone such as Torcolacci preaches anti -vaccine material to a less -than -educated audience? This is not a hypothetical situation and we know that these situations are, sadly, occurring in our society. The only way that we can prevent individuals from believing what some rightfully describe as a masterpiece of propaganda is to con- stantly provide people with the innumerable amount of facts that are grounded in real medi- cal science. Education is the only solution to this overwhelming naivety and dangerous mess that the anti -vaccination movement has created. Fortunately, the gov- ernment is more than aware of the great dan- ger that the movement poses and Canada's health minister, Rona Ambrose, was entirely right when she stated last week that parents who don't vaccinate their children are put- ting their children's health and other's chil- dren's health at risk. "Vaccinations are, frankly, miracles of modern medicine," Ambrose said, "They are saving millions and mil- lions of lives around the world, especially of children!' Now it's time that offi- cials at Queen's step up to the plate and state the same. Once the content that she was teaching was revealed to the public, Torcolacci knew what she was in store for and, by stepping aside from the course, she took the easy way out. This is not good enough. Queen's University must make it clear that under no cir- cumstance will it com- promise its rigorous aca- demic standards. It must prove this by suspend- ing her.
