HCFBDC thanks the Municipality of Central Huron
Tara Ostner
The Clinton News Record
The Huron County Food
Bank Distribution Centre
(HCFBDC) recently wrote a
letter of thanks to the
Municipality of Central
Huron which was acknowl-
edged at a Central Huron
council meeting last
month. In the letter HCF-
BDC thanks the municipal-
ity for its $1,000 donation to
the centre.
As Mary Ellen Zielman,
the executive director of
the HCFBDC, states, "We
are fortunate to have dona-
tions of pork and beef
throughout the year from
local organizations and
farmers... There are always
costs associated with that
and we have put your dona-
tion towards the processing
costs we incur every
month."
The HCFBDC is not a
food bank but, rather, an
organization that acquires,
stores and distributes food
to the food banks and aid
agencies located within
Huron County. It also
works alongside the Huron
County Health Unit. Once
the centre receives dona-
tions of food from local
businesses and farmers it
acts as a clearinghouse by
sorting the food and then
distributing it accordingly.
The list of those who
support the HCFBDC is
growing longer every day,
however, the centre is
always looking for more
help and counts on individ-
ual donations as well.
Anyone who is interested
in supporting the centre
may donate online, by
direct withdrawal or mail
cheque or money order and
the centre is always collect-
ing food donations.
For more information
regarding the HCFBDC,
people are asked to visit its
website at www.huron-
countyfoodbank.org or

"I don't want to the in jail": Accused murderer Panovski

Accused murderer Boris
Panovski says he doesn't
want to die in jail.
Panovski, 70, who is
charged with the first-
degree murder in the death
of Don Frigo and the
attempted murder of Frigo's
wife, Eva Willer Frigo, said
his health is not in good
condition during a court
appearance in Goderich on
Monday morning.
Panovski, who had black
hair when arrested at Pear-
son International Airport
last fall, is now sporting
longer, graying hair.
Speaking in Macedonian,

Londesborough benefit
aims to support local
man and his family
Tara Ostner
The Clinton News Record
There are many benefits to
living in a small community.
One of them is the fact that,
many times, people in these
communities are happy and
willing to come together and
support each other in times
of need.
This will likely be illus-
trated in Londesborough
this weekend when folks
from the area will gather
together in support of Mike
Merner and his family.
Mike is currently fighting
thyroid cancer, a type of can-
cer that occurs in the cells of
the thyroid which is a gland
that is located at the base of
one's neck.
Food, drinks, games and
raffles will be available for
purchase and organizers of
the event point out that there
will be something to do for
all ages. Any donation would
also be greatly appreciated.
The event will be held this
Saturday, February 7 from 11
a.m. until 4 p.m. at the
Londesboro Hall.
Anyone who would like to
receive more information
regarding the event is asked
to contact Julie Wright at
519-524-0833 or Juanita
Hamp at 519-440-6181.

However, duty counsel
John 0' Donnell told the
court that during his con-
versation with Panovski, the
accused revealed he does
not currently have a lawyer
retained.
Bob Richardson, a
Toronto-based lawyer, has
been representing Panovski
in discussions with the
Huron County Crown Attor-
ney, but is not officially his
legal representation.
According to 0' Donnell,
Panovski has refused to
apply for Legal Aid because
"he doesn't want to burden
the taxpayers", despite it
being explained to him that
if he qualifies it is free.
0' Donnell also indicated
that Panovski has requested
that his disclosure be sent to
him, but Justice P. Hodgins
said due to the severity of the
charges against the accused,
that request could not be ful-
filled immediately.
Laura Grant, assistant
Huron County Crown Attor-
ney, said Panovski's legal
representation issues need
to be settled before the case
can move forward.
When asked to adjourn
the matter for two weeks,
Hodgins was concerned
whether "anything is going
to change" when the matter
is brought to court.
"Something needs to hap-
pen," she said.
