Renner commences
duties as full-time fire
chief at Central Huron
Fire Department
Tara Ostner
The Clinton News Record
It's official. The former
acting fire chief, Dave Ren-
ner, began his first day as a
full-time fire chief, inspector
and chief emergency man-
agement coordinator
(CEMC) at the Central
Huron Fire Department last
month.
Renner explains that he is
delighted to have been hired
for the position and is eager
to accomplish various
important tasks in his new
role. In particular, he has six
goals that he wishes to
accomplish.
First, Renner wants to
attain a clear level of organi-
zation among the firefight-
ers. As he points out, there
are currently 21 volunteer
firefighters at the depart-
ment including three cap-
tains, one deputy chief and
one chief (Renner himself).
There are also three commit-
tees within the department,
namely, a health and safety
committee, a fire and
prevention committee and a
training committee, and out-
lining the main aims and
responsibilities of these
groups is important to
Renner.
Renner also wants to
spend more time organizing
and completing mandatory
paperwork. As he describes,
there is a significant amount
of paperwork that must be
completed even when just a
single phone call is placed to
the department. "The fire
trucks don't even have to
leave the station," Renner
states, "there is still a sub-
stantial amount of work to
be done"
In addition to this,
because Renner has also
been hired to fulfill the role
of the CEMC, understanding
how to effectively deal with
emergencies is a top priority
for him. In the event of a
nearby emergency it will be
Renner's responsibility to
call upon Central Huron
council to discuss how to
handle the crisis. "I will want
to make sure that the right

steps are carried out," Ren-
ner states.
Renner also wants to make
understanding how to effec-
tively deal with the vulnera-
ble occupancy sector a top
priority. A lot of training is
involved when learning
about how to handle a fire at
a hospital or nursing home,
he describes, and with three
